Ok so im working on getting my 58 RR going and it has bad trim on the top and bottom, some is missing and i was wondering can i just make the tank rimless both bottom and top. Does the trim help support the tank? It doesnt have the cross braces on top and bottom. would like your input

    Thanks Oddhobbies101

I believe the trim supports the tank. Usually rimless tanks are thicker and have some eurobracing on the bottom of the tank.

You could probably substitute the external trim and put in a euro brace top and bottom instead, but like Roman said the trim does support the tank.

well i was thinking that since the tank isn't that big i wouldn't need the euro brace, that and the trim is four individual pieces so its not a solid piece. The glass is about 1/2 an inch thick

What are the dimensions on that? If its not too tall you may be able to get away with it if it is indeed 1/2" glass. It may be risky though. Most tanks with trim have it in place for structural support of the glass.

I had a cracked trim on my 75. When the tank was empty it looked fine, but when I filled it it bowed out a good 1/2 inch. The plastic trim definitely supports the tank walls.

On my 75 it only cost about $15 to replace.
