I think you missed the point of my post

Let's make this clear. I support all feedback, positive and negative. But negative criticism on a public thread needs to not be ripping a store apart, or ripping anyone apart for that matter. State your bad experiences as a matter of fact and people will hear you just fine. But it really doesn't do any good to drive your point home with a sledgehammer.

I've always had positive experiences with Seascapes. The help is nice, and I like their sales. Now, granted the majority of my purchases there are for dog and cat supplies unless they've got aquatics on sale.

I won't disparage them as a business - this industry is hard and it is even more difficult when you have a great network of hobbyists that aren't worried about selling their stock at a price that covers the extensive overhead costs that come with a physical store.

The one thing that hurts me when I go in there is seeing the condition of their corals, and that very awkard frag tank they have in the main store area now. I do not understand why they thought that tank, with its awkward dimensions and terrible layout, was a good idea.

Me also actually. Now Iowa pet used to be a great contender to Liveaquaria for me because they offered a 5 day guarantee on any fish for an extra $5. I really liked that didnt have to pay shipping :) but they stopped that a long time ago.
I know I have spent a ton of money in there and have also tried to get the club back in there for holding a meeting or salt buys ect... I kept getting told the same thing though each time.

Im not saying I'm necessarily going to stop trying because they really are our only choice in the area for a fish store besides petco... but they should really fix some of their issues and make it better or more appealing to the consumer by cleaning up the tanks a bit more regularly ect.

I'm not taking anything personally. My comments that are in response to your posts are specific to the manner in which you present a negative viewpoint and my advice applies in any case, not this specific one.

Brutal honesty has a place and it's welcome here, but as I have already stated there is no need to take a sledgehammer to it to drive the point home. State your case, state your experience, try to leave sarcasm etc out of it. Everyone else will infer how that would feel if it happened to them, and your point is made without the sledgehammer.

The thing about negative feedback is that it has a much higher tendency to get snarky and sarcastic. And that never goes over well. It both riles up the people on the other side, and elicits more of the same, or ticks off the target of the comments. And then, it becomes a post war = drama.

This seems to happen from time to time, and the same thing happens, the thread explodes. I'm trying to show everyone a way that a point can still be made without all the drama.

Posts are never deleted or edited unless it's something really serious and it's generally a last resort. Locking a thread just stops additional responses and doesn't delete it.

i live i north liberty so i have a few nice options locally to support.and i dont spend a lot at all of them,i do try to buy a few things at each.fish stores are a lot like restaurants i believe.you may get a great meal one day,and it may not even be close the second time.that doesnt generally mean i wont visit the place again.i know if i want to drive a little and spend a little more i can get a great meal that costs a lot(or a spend a lot for a nicer variety on supplies or corals) its my choice.but i do still eat at the local places(shop for corals and supplies locally.hell,i sometimes even eat at a friends house(trade with fellow hobbiests).we should be nice and not so judgmental.we dont like we others do that to us!and i know because im all tatted up and clean and sober, but when people see me they instantly assume im an unemployed drug addict that is only in their store to steal something lol.dont let other people judgmental opinions lead you in experiences are ment to be your own . sorry for the rant

I still use Seascapes, although they're not perfect. But neither is this club. I have talked to a few people who have had something sour to say about how they were treated here. :/ Which hasn't been my experience, I love it-- but it does seem as if people get judgmental very quickly. This thread is a good example. Let's all try to be kind.

As for Seascapes, they would be great if they changed a few things: Clean up the tanks, maybe put more of an effort into getting rid of aiptasia/flatworms/etc, not sure if I like the way they acclimate their fish (which from my experience, I've seen them floating bags. Guessing they don't drip. I'm unsure of that statement though), they need to back their products and give refunds (not tell you all sales are final. Especially if the item is broken out of the box. I heard someone on here complain about this.), and they should give in-store credit if you turn in a fish/invert (which I was told that they would take my animal but not comp me. I shop there all the time, the animal is healthy, and they'd just resale it. Gimme a break. Maybe they could even take the animal and if it lives after 5 days THEN comp you, to cover their behinds.)

But anyway, that's just my two cents and what I would personally like to see them do to improve their store. Hopefully that all came out constructively and not as an attack as I do shop there all the time.

It rubs me wrong that a person that it cost nothing can say bad things about a person that cost them thousands

Im Done with all this. Since everyone knows I sell stuff and Dan doesn't. There is a difference between slander which you were referring with me by some person thats in jail tangman and real problems that were discussed in here.

So basically what everyone wants in this thread is to not warn anyone of feedback that could possibly cause issues in your tank. That makes sense

You completely missed my point. Maybe someone else said "don't post negative feedback" but I certainly did not.

My point is to post constructive feedback. I have problem with stating facts, such as the existence of pests or diseases, as those are things that indeed should be shared, things that should be known as a heads-up to others. Some may decide that it's not worth doing business based on that, other may just take precautions and do some homework but might still do business. Knowledge is power, and we should be about sharing what we know with others, no doubt about that.

When it gets to the level of outright slamming on a business or person and being over-the-top critical of their practices and/or individual personality, to me, that crosses a line. That goes for any kind of negative feedback.

My intent was not to police this thread, but I feel it has come off that way. My intent was to steer the direction of the thread toward the facts and experiences and away from extremity in feelings and opinions that seem to do no good. The reason I brought up locking the thread was because I saw it going down this path in a hurry.

Everyone should really take the time and express themselves thoughtfully when it comes to topics like these, without letting their emotions or knee-jerk reactions get the better of them.

No I got your point but the fact that I was called out over some crap That was a lie from a long time ago by some hoodlum that attacked my family and robbed a business. Then everyone agreeing with the fact that we shouldn't say stuff that can hurt a business even though the issues they have can hurt someones tank especially for some new person that doesn't know to dip.

Sorry but we should be coming together as a club we shouldn't defend a business that wants nothing to do with us
