Have had this green favia for at least 3 months. Just started noticing these white patchy areas of zooxanthelle loss. It is the only coral doing this. It is on the bottom under 4 39 watt t5 bulbs in a 40 breeder. My parameters are as follows:
    Salinity 1.024
    Temp. 76 degrees
    Alk 10 dkh
    Calcium 420ppm
    Ph 8.0
    Nitrates 0ppm
    Phosphates .25ppm
    Nitrite 0ppm
    Ammonia 0ppm
Magnesium- Don't know haven't got test kit yet.
Running a reef octopus HOB skimmer, emperor 400 HOB filter and a 9 watt coralife UV sterilizer.
    I have 50+ pounds live rock and 2 powerheads a maxi jet 1200 and a hydor 750.
Don't dose alk or calcium because salt mix has kept my tank at the levels above. I use instant ocean reef crystals.
Wanting to know if anyone knows what's causing this issue it has me concerned. Thanks!

I do my other lps who react when lights are on or in the morning with daylight from room only. The favia has always put its polyps out after I've gone to bed checked one night. Hard to feed when your half a sleep lol. Still will try. I also was wondering I trickle the top off water on that side alot could that maybe be it? Thanks any other advice welcome.

I have a favites coral that is pretty much identical to this one. It was the first coral I had in my tank. It has never grown beyond its original size. Twice it has bleached and receded by about 1/3 on a side but it eventually has grown back to its original size each time. I've tried everything and it typically looks very healthy other than those two events but I can't get it to grow beyond the size I got it originally. I fed after dark etc and nothing seems to make a difference. So it may be some unknown that it will just recover from. Maybe its upset because it likes exactly .01 boron in the water, or .0001 cobalt instead of .0002. Who knows is my answer. Sometimes it's best to take peace in knowing you can't know haha.

Also I would consider however raising your average temp 2 degrees to be around 78-79 as well as reduce your alk closer to 9. I have noticed that a lot of my LPS don't like when my Alk gets above 9.5. Your Magnesium could be a little low too with Alk in that range. Reef crystals have good levels of Mag but i bet if you don't dose it youre in the 1200 range and have also noticed LPS and SPS losing color when my mag gets below 1325.
