I bought an mp10 a little over a month ago and have loved it, but I just came across the new Smartwave by Hydor and I feel a little foolish now.

I watched a video on youtube of an interview of one of the hydor reps at MAX and he talked about how it will retail for around $60 in June when it is released. There are not nearly as many settings or speed variations as a Vortech, but it can control quite a few pumps as each plug is capable of supporting 100 watts.
Just wanted to share in case there are some out there debating upgrading their pumps.

eh, you still have cords in the water and it does not do anything a good timer can power strip cant do.

It is an inexpensive way to change up the flow in your tank, but nothing like what the Vortechs have to offer. They do offer synch, anti-synch and feed, but they are not even in the same league as Vortech pumps.

HAHA, I am getting the kinds of responses I was hoping for to make me feel better and more justified! I may have overreacted to the video. I think I am going to go change my current mode just to feel a little bit better still/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif.

Vortech mp10 all the way. No cords in the tank, no heat transfer. Plus they are just damn sweet.

I bought a 10 and a 40 last week.  I put the 10 in my 28 gal nano cube and I think it's lots better than the 2 small koralias I had in there.  I put the 40 on one end of my 90 and the jury is out on that.  I may buy another 40 and put it opposite and remove the existing large koralia.  I hadn't heard of the smartwave so I need to do some reading.  I had a wave maker on the 2 koralias but gave it up because the pumps always stuck.

I have had my mp40's for over a year and imo they are the best pumps in the world. They are pricey but with the incredible customer service there well worth it.
