So after years of trying to convince my wife that we need an English Bulldog, I think she'd showing signs of giving in.  So I'm looking for a good reputable breeder.  I know they are one of the breeds that's more likely to have health issues than other breeds, that's why bloodline with these dogs and health history is so important.  Also, from my reading, there's also some temperament considerations that are formed by breeder treatment of the dogs.  They have to be AKC registered and location of the breeder is really not that important.  If you know a good breeder, please help me out and send me contact info.  Thanks!!!

Contact the Kirklins...they know someone. I talked to the breeder a few months back. I just found an Olde English Bulldog breeder in my parts. I have alway wanted your typical english bulldog but the Olde english bulldogs are supposed to be a healthier breed.

If your up to the challenge, you can always adopt one. There was a cute tiny little puppy up for adoption that was blind. I just googled bulldog rescues and i think looked on petfinder.com

Call Dr. Bradley D. Petersen, DVM Petersen Pet Hospital P.C.743-0554. He is a member of the Eastern Iowa Aquarium Association, I am sure he could help with your selection of a good breeder close by.

I have a Olde English Bulldogge. Baby is around 11 months old. They are great dogs, barely ever barks. From what i have hear olde english are a healther breed than the english since they are a newer breed. They will be taller with less wrinkles. Great with kids and other animals, and very athletic but still lazy. If you have any questions contact me and ill help you out. Here is the breeder she is from http://oldenglishpups.com/. im bad at posting pics(http://www.flickr.com/photos/22945455@N06/5448435838/)

I have too wanted an english bulldog for some time now and I have done alot of research on the breed. a place that i plan on getting my bulldogs is castlewoodbulldogs.com they located in missouri but is well worth the trip although expensive you can tell they really care about their pups along with there sires and dams. I also go to this website often to learn more information about them http://www.bulldoginformation.com/ there is alot of useful information on puppy care on this particular breed. I also tells you how to check temperament when choosing your bulldog. Look at those two websites I have been to millions of them those to stuck out to me the first one is a breeder the second is information on bulldogs. Hope this helps!

I am the owner of an english bulldog. As long as you do your homework and reference check the breeded, you will be fine. In fact all the health issues may exist but most are hereditary. Ours have sensitive skin, requires bath every 4 days and that is it. He doesn't bark, bite, jump, or have any behavior issues. In fact, best mannered dog I have ever met. I have 3 kids, neighborhood full of dogs and kidas all ages. Never has he chewed our home or belonginings, went potty in the house, etc. He does not shed, as long as you bath and brush him, you will be fine. I am having my wife get the breeders name and number for you.

    Don,
Thanks for the info on the vet. I'll certainly call him for info.

    Hippie,
Your Olde English is a good lookin' dog! I must say, their short, stubbly legs and wrinkled face are some of the things that I like most about the dogs, so I think the regular English Bulldog would be best for me, but I'll keep an open mind and do research on the Olde English as well. Also, Are you saying that the Olde English sheds less than the regular bulldog? Or that your dog sheds alot?

    Natasha,
Thanks for the info. Yes, it certainly does help. I'll add the breeder you mentioned to my list for follow up! Missouri is certainly not too far to drive. Plus I have family down there that I could probably visit on the way.

    Chad,
Your bulldog is awesome. If I get one that's as well behaved and mild mannered as yours, I would consider myself very fortunate.

    Thanks again everyone!

great choice in dogs AJ. As a dog trainer and someone who shows dogs in the obedience ring, there are a few things you should know before getting one of these bully breeds. Training is with out a doubt needed. Start early and never stop going. This serves as not only exercise and reinforcment but also gets the dog accustomed to other dogs and people. I have seen many people get these dogs and never properly train them only to have to put them down. they are very stubberon so a lot of patience is needed.

many health issues come with this breed also. you need to make sure to keep their folds clean and dry, otherwise bacteria can form there. they also have heart and respitory issues, so while you still need to walk the dog, they wont stand up to a lot of running around.
They do fetch a high price but this is mostly because they have to be artificaly inseminated and pups need to be removed via c section because of their large heads and narrow hips.

That said, a good first place to look for a good breeder IMO would be a vet. they will have health records of both parents and will typically have a good idea of their temperments.

AJ she seems to sheds alot. I have spoken to other OEB owners and they also say they shed alot. Plus with her being white you can see it.
Good luck with what ever pup you get. And like mthomp said you have to keep up on the training they bull headed.

Yeah, I kind of figured they would need to be trained a bit, but I wasn't prepared to see that it's among the "dumbest" dogs out there.  I'm not known for my patience so training might turn out to be a challenge.
I knew about the respiratory and joint issues, but did not see the heart issues listed in the stuff I read.  I guess more reading is warranted.
Most of the prices that I've seen are between $1500 and $2500.  That includes delivery with some, but not with all.
I will check with my current vet in addition to the one that Don mentioned to get some additional recommendations.
    Thanks for the info Mike!
