Which would work better in my case? Only 10in baffle or building a stand for the skimmer?

I always go 10in. But that's just me there's lots of was to build a sucessful system. I would say keep reserching and by the time you are ready to build it you will know what is right for you.

I think I like the idea of being able to utillize my volume a little better so I want to build a stand for the skimmer. Does anybody have any solid objections to this idea or suggestions on the easiest way to do this?

Just an update, I had the baffles cut today from Ace hardware and so far have 3 of six baffles done. So far its going really well except now my apartment stinks of he nasty vinegar-ish smells that are the silicone. Blah. Here are a few pictures of my progress:

Mine is a bit more sloppier than all you pro's so no laughing too hard /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif haha

Letting these dry out now and then I'll add the remaining three plus the weird little lip onto the third baffle to get my chaeto to spin. I'm getting really excited! Sump in progress, skimmer, return pump, T5 bulbs, and lunar lights in the mail, MH and T5 retrofit kits ready to be set up, weather warming up so next week I should be able to finish my stand and canopy... WOOT! Hopefully I'll be getting the 40g wet within the next few weeks!!! WOOT!!!

Thanks! I'm so excited. I love building stuff and so this sort of project makes me so happy haha. My boyfriend keeps joking that I'm the man of the house because I go to hardware stores, build things out of wood and glass, fix the bathroom, and make burgers for supper /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif haha

Picked up my skimmer for the 40g today. Man is it a BEAST!! I swear this thing is almost as big as the 20g. At least as long, maybe not as deep but DANG! Had measured my first baffle according to the base of this skimmer thinking it would fit. Put the baffle in the right place, but unfortunately, they don't mention that the equipment, like the recirculating pump extend past the base, so the tank itself is not wide enough for this beasty. Oh well, I think its technically an external skimmer anyway so I'll just rig it that way. Shouldn't be too hard /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Here's a pic with the famous Mr. Squishy Cheekums checking it out. You can use him as a comparison for the size of this beast! haha

The "will rock you" at the bottom gave it away. It was just missing the "we" at the front. Of course I went through my movies quick to find the case and confirm after I posted.

I love the skimmer! You will be happy with it. I love mine!

Thats good to hear! I've had a lot of people recommend Reef Octopus but never this one specifically. I'm glad someone else has it and loves it /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

And the color pencils are fun. I don't really need them for anything other than goofing around and doodling with them every so often /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

    Thats good /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

Say, does anybody have a trick for protecting the unsealed edges of the glass? I keep cutting myself without realizing it. Nothing serious but its not fun to look down and see blood running across your hand into your sump... not fun at all

Split some air line(or tube of your choosing) and put it over the edge, if you didn't have it all build you could have had them sanded.
