If you have a Dremel, you can buy some cheap diamond bits on eBay or Amazon. Lightly grind the edges just enough to remove the sharp edge. They do this at most glass shops but charge more than it's worth. Do it yourself and save yourself some $$.

No dremel here, sorry. Has anybody else tried siliconing that edge or applying the airline tubing? Those seem like some good, inexpensive but effective ideas. If anything, airline tubing isn't expensive and I can reapply it every so often. What do you think?

A Dremel is a great investment and can be used for all sorts of things.  It's probably my most frequently used power tool.

I didnt plan ahead very well n now thats as far down in as I can reach with the tube of silicone. I had thought it would be ok because its very secure and that baffle is there just to direct most of the water down. Should I get it sealed more? Any suggestions on how to do that?

Use your finger to smear some more silicone in on at least one side if you can. If there isn't enough room for your hand to get in there find something to put the silicone on and smear it in. If you do it by hand deal with your sharp edges first or you might cut your own wrist.

Just an update. I got my tank drilled this afternoon at Sea of Marvels. Two 3/4" bulkheads for returns and a 1.5" bulkhead for a drain. I also got my MH's up and running thanks to Andie at work. Also have my T5 kit except the bulbs, which should arrive next week. I also have the bulkheads plus locline for the returns arriving tomorrow, and also my moonlights, fans, and timed power strip in the mail. This coming week I'll be spending all of my break to sanding, staining, sealing, and building my stand and canopy.

    I'm getting closer!!! WOOT!!!

How are you doing your overflow then? Are you jut making a PVC style overflow?

Nice I knew andy would help you get those lights hooked up. What bulbs are you going to use?

Haha funny story sort of with the overflow. So I took my tank to Hung this afternoon to have it drilled, told him the sizes and the gist of where I wanted my holes but told him to do what he thought was safest for the tank stability (I wasn't sure how close he could drill to the edge). I come to pick it up a few hours later, and instead of the drain hole being along the top edge which is where I was planning, its smack in the middle of the back wall. Haha kind of a shocker for a newb. But, Andy and Adam helped me think it out, and this'll actually work for the better for me. I'll have my bulkhead with a PVC elbow and umm... he had a proper term for it.. well essentially a tall straight pipe sticking up out of the elbow that I will cut to where the height I want my water to be. Then it'll all be pvc in the back to the sump and back.

Are there better ways than just pvc too and from the tank to sump? It seems like the easiest to install and maintain but then again, I'm not very aware of plumbing in general.

My bulbs are two 15K bulbs. And man are those bright! After he got it all rigged we turned it on to test and my eyes still hurt from looking at them haha. And they get hot too! They weren't on for a couple minutes and one started to burn the box we had propped it on. I learned a lot about MH's tonight

You could use a overflow box that goes from the bottom of the tank to the top of the tank made out of acrylic, or you can make a DIY one by taking a piece of 4in PVC pipe and cut it in half, and then notch it to make a surface skimmer.
