So, it's been a while since I've updated. I've spent the past three days sanding and staining the pieces to my stand and canopy at my parents house. I've got all but the underside of the canopy lid stained and ready to be sealed with polyurethane. Here are some pictures:

Along with working on these, I've also gotten all of my plumbing from Lowes so I will be ready to hook that up as soon as the stand and canopy are put together. My bulbs for my T5's were suppose to arrive today so I'll be able to pick those up when I go to work this afternoon. That means I have all of the equipment going in my canopy so I can rig that once its all finished. Thats going to be a lot more cramped than I expected it to be.

So there's my little update. I'll post more pics when the stand and canopy get finished and built /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif YAY!!! This is so much fun!!

Looking good Kylie. I bet that's going to be a great looking stand/canopy. Can't wait to see it assembled!

Wow great job! Can't wait to see it put together. Are you going to finish it off with a couple coats of polyurethane?

Yep. I just got three coats done on one main surface (plus any visible edges) of each piece today. Tomorrow I'll get at least two, if not all three one before and after work. Also, I'll be moving the 20g to the other side of the living room so I'll have room to set up this as soon as its built. The color is much prettier now with the polyurethane on it. Gives it a much better glow to it.

Yep! I sent you a pm last night. Of the 7 or 8 that I could count, at least 4 of them were crawling around and happy once they were in the tank. The others were still sucked in their shells.

Oh, and note to self... ventilating the garage while using polyurethane is very important. I didn't yesterday and I feel like CRAP today. Headache, weak, shaky, and a little naucious. Blarg...

I am catching up on all the build threads this week... I am really behind /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif pardon any repetition

for the chaeto, you will have to keep it trimmed back... if it overgrows, you loose the tumble. It is better to have less with the rotation. I have 3 maxijets helping mine get the twist going... throwing one on the bottom angled up could help if you don't get what you need.

Didn't see the answer, but Chaeto, which is one of my fav algaes- definitely won't go sexual, it is non invasive when (not if) it gets into your main tank, and it not as noxious as some of the other high growth algaes.
Try to throw some gracillius and other "good" algae in there.. you have more chances that one of them will find something bad to soak up from the tank. Putting calupera in can cause a bigger headache than varnish. (there are 1 or 2 that dont' risk nuking your tank though.

Two Thumbs up for cooking the rock. Do you have your rockscape planned out yet? to me that is as important for nutrient control as export fuges and skimmers are...i messed up way too many tanks early on with rockscapes hugging the back wall.

I dont have any real plans yet. Any suggedtions? I dont want the tank to seem full of rock like my 20g is but i want plenty of space for corals and as many fun tunnels for my fish as possible. Any ideas?

Just an update. I got both stand and canopy finished and built and moved into the apartment. I started plumbing last night and got the external part of the drain done. I need to pick up a few pieces i forgot for the return. I'll try and post pics tonight when i get back from school

Ok, so here are a few pictures. I forgot to take a pic of the stand before I turned it around to work on my plumbing so the shots are kind of awkward. As for the plumbing, like I said, I have the external drain portion done but only part of the way through the return and need to do the internal drain plumbing. Hope you like the pictures!

Oh, and the lid is not on the canopy because I'm working on the lights and I need another handle and to insert the plugs hiding the screws into the stand. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif
