Any other sci-fi freaks out there (besides JB and I) that want to go see TRON?  I would love to go this weekend...let's get a group together and hit the movies!  I have a company Christmas party tomorrow night, so that's out, but Sat evening is open.  Who else wants to go?

Well, it wasn't the greatest movie of all time, but I did enjoy it. There were a few things my inner-geek hated about it, but it was still pretty good.

Yeah, I agree with JB. Not a 10/10, but a solid 8.5 for me. The effects were really cool (as you would expect) and there were some nice touches that paid tribute to the original. The 3D effects were not the cheap, cheezy, 3D effects like bits from explosions popping out at you, but they were really well integrated into the film and gave it nice depth. Plus, they did some of the movie in 2D which was pretty cool how they mixed the two to differentiate things. Despite some being in 2D, you still wear the glasses the whole time. I would recommend going to see it, but it's not a movie that I would go and see over and over again at the theater...just once is enough.

My biggest "geek" problem with it was that they changed the way the light cycles worked. In the original (and the game) they could only turn in 90 degree increments and the light walls only existed when they cycles were on the game grid. In the new version, the light cycles can turn in any direction and their light walls work everywhere (evidently even in mid air).

IMO, the original light cycle concept was a lot more interesting.

Oh, and other than a brief appears in the background of a few scenes, there are no battle tanks.
