    Hi All,
My name is Mary and i live in Camanche. I have a 29 GA nano up and running for 3 years now and am working on a 125. I moved from WI to my old hometown a year ago.

my favorite place to shop here is Aquatic Enivironments.... :)

In WI my favorite place was The Feed BAG in Grafton, WI. An avid reefer is manager and offers great deals to fellow reefers. So if you ever get up there ask for Joe and tell him i sent you.. lol

i have been unable to attend meetings due to family obligations but hope to be able to attend them in the future.

    Justin Box,
Been entwined in the hobby for about 5 years now, but only had a tank for the last year. I work at AE and have for about 5 years. Favorite part of the hobby is the coral itself, quite an amazing animal.

    Hi Everone,

Our names are Teresa and Doug and we live here in Eldridge.

We have a couple of systems going: Decided to try our hand at saltwater about 3 years ago, our first system is a 29 gal bio-cube with a 10 gal refugium above (FOWLR). Really enjoyed it so decided we needed a larger system so in the last six months, we have started our second system which is a 540 gallon tank with a 75 gal sump and a 90 gal refugium. What have we gotten ourselves into?????????????

hey welcome to GIRS and the saltwater world. Starting your first tank can intimidating for sure but with a little guidance much of that can be eased.
The first rule is take your time and research every purchase, and ask plenty of questions. iam sure you will find most if not all your answers from the members here in the club.

Is a 55 gallon ok to start a SW with? I was told it is harder to use a 55 due to keeping the levels ok? I have done fresh water but never salt water. Not sure of what all i will need to buy but I am starting a chart today and doing price comparisons...always so much fun lol

My first tank was a 55gal sumpless, and this was just a yr ago. it is a little more challenging because of size constraints but a lot depends on your equipment. Mine was very succesful but have since upgraded to a 90 reef ready.

depnding on what type of coral you want too keep lights will be one of your largest expences and you will need a skimmer for sure i always try to go 1.5x the recomended size on a skimmer and is the one thing you really do not want to skimp on. I will have some equipment for sale in the next week that I had on my 55. Lights and a skimmer fairly cheap so if your interested let me know. Live rock will be your other big expence in a 55gal you will want around 65 lbs of rock.

Hi everyone, i neglegted to introduce myself when i first joined, I'm Alex and live in Aledo.  I have had a 40g FW aquarium for over a year now and aquariums have been in the family for a long time.  I'm in the process of buying a 120g RR aquarium that will start out as a FOWLR aquarium until it has matured enough to add coral. I'm hoping Aquatic Environments will have their 120g tanks on sale again in April.

Hey welcome to the club. Nothing wrong with FOWLR tanks, Tasha6 is big on them. Personally I found that reef tanks are usually ready for coral much sooner then fish but that is just my experiance. Anyway be sure to keep an eye on our monthly meetings and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

LOL sounds good. Our meetings dont typically have anything to do with buying or selling stuff they are more educational in nature.

here is a link to this yrs schedule. Some of this may/will change but take a look and come to any you feel you want.

Guess I had better put my info up also. I've been floating around from site to site for the last couple years. I have a 125 gal (approx) in-wall system that's been running for a little over a year and a half. I've been succesful maintaining, but not a whole lot of growth at this point. I'm hoping with the introduction of some recent equipment, I'll be able to keep a closer eye on my parameters, and maybe see some things flourish. I'm in Monmouth IL, and make at the least, a quarterly trip to AE. I have made several purchases online, and bought from some folks near by. Thanks, I'll be around, Doug Schaeffer
