Just set up a 75. Need to get some damsels local if I can find some. Want to avoid pet stores if possible.
You really don't need to use live fish to cycle a tank, its just cruel to the fish and there are a number of other ways that work just as well. Not to mention the fact that if the fish survive the cycle, and they likely will, you'll have to get them out of there more than likely (not always very easy with a bunch of live rock to hide in) and you'll have to find a home for them. Google fishless cycling and you'll find lots of info on how it can be done........you can buy ammonia in a bottle just for cycling (~$4), the beneficial bacteria is also sold in a bottle and made by several companies (Dr. Tim's is one). Or just buy a hunk of live rock off of someone or from a store and that will have the bacteria on it/in it.
well my plan was to put damsels in the tank. And leave them in there for about 3 months, and then take them out. Why 3 months? Build slow, add some live rock here and there. This is going to be a fowlr tank only. I would like to find a little live rock now, so if anyone in dsm area has some I am looking.
