Hey im gettin ready to set up the 55 gallon tank, and im trying to figure out lighting. I dont have a big budget. Shaun is offering his nova extreme 2 bulb for pretty cheap. should i go with that? I'm going to have a good mixture of coral, inverts and fish in the tank, and i have shimmering moon leds. I may have to get a second set of lights since im not sure a two bulb would go TOO far. but im jsut getting suggestions on some lighting. any imput would be great. THanks!

There really is no magic number... The proper amount of lighting will vary depend on what you are planning to keep. As a general rule, corals, anenome's and clams need lots of light. Fish, crabs, starfish etc would be happy with a cheap shop light. But even within corals it varies... Generally SPS and LPS generally needs more light than softies. Are you going for growth, color or both? There's a lot to consider.

So, in other words, you need to figure out what you want to keep and then plan your lighting accordingly.

    Hope that helps.

Anymore I would say to go with t-5 high output. There are some many more options for spectrums so on and so forth. Leds seem to be awesome but get quit costly to buy.
