There will randomly be people who sell LR for that cheap but not often cuz we will all by it for 2$ a pound. I know a guy who has some really nice shapes and pieces and sizes for 2-3$ a pound BUT and i stress BUT, it is covered it hair algae and needs to be baked or scrubbed to death before I'd recommend it. It sucks too because he has some of the coolest pieces with caves and crevises all over in the rock and some of the coolest ive see but its litterally covered in hair algae so I didnt mess with it. If you want to take the time to cure it and rid the algae you will have some of the best pieces of rock you can get

If you need to bake and cure the stuff anyway why not just buy some base rock? That stuff already goes for about $2/lb./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/cool.gif

Good point.... Alot of time base rock is boring bland peices thats kinda ungly and you want to cover it anyway. Hince "base" rock. I know what you mean and Im not saying its the best route to go just throwing an option out there. As you were too.

Found some for 2$ a pound in ankeny. The guy made it himself out of crushed coral and aragonite. Very cool looking pieces and shapes.

You wouldn't necessarily need to get rid of all that hair algae. My tank has low phosphates and I don't grow any hair algae, so when my brother broke down his tank I bought all his live rock for the brother priced special. His rock was covered in hair algae and within a week or so in my tank it was all gone, my blue tang, one spot foxface, and angels made short work of it. It's not like hair algae is a bad thing, it doesn't have any diseases or nasty bacteria in it, just looks unpleasant...
