I'm getting ready to start my DIY led project but would like to get some base line readings from my current setup before I switch over.
Does anyone have one I can use?

Perhaps being MACNA was such a success it may be a good time to ask the fine folks that run this club to see if PAR meters could be supplied by GIRS for each area. I know it has been brought up int he past and I was against it because there was a serious funds shortage, now there seems to be a little money in the till along with the popularity of disco ball's ....errr I mean LED's it might be a good time to pony up.

I can't agree more Wavers!! I think it's awesome that Craig is willing to let club members use his meeter, but like you said the club should have the funds to buy a few for the club. That would save the wear and tear on Craig's, and give the paying members a little extra.
With the amount of people switching over to LEDS I think its a great Idea.
Just put it in the areas Trustee's hands they can keep control of it. Good way to thank members that host meetings, tank tours, etc.. by taking it to the meetings and checking their systems.

When the area trustees change, they would just pass the meeter over to the next.
What does everyone else think???  B.O.D???

I would rather us get 1 par meter. I was thinking about this today and if each area was able to get 1 thing for their area such as a par meter in one area and some other tool in another. these things could be traded between areas on a regular basis say at swap meets, business meetings etc.

I'm also an advocate of the club having an equipment library with stuff available for check-out.  The biggest reason why this hasn't already been done is due to the logistical requirements of checking it out.  Does the person that checks it out leave a deposit?  What if they break it?  What if parts are missing when it's returned?  Who keeps it when it's not checked out?  How does it get from person to person.  These are not really difficult problems, but things to think about and a format process developed so that everyone knows how the check-out program works.

That is why each area needs their own!!!!
No check out needed. The trustee would be in charge of it. That way it stays in the area and one doesn't have to drive 2hrs one way to borrow it.
As far as maintenance goes, Most of us are adults and should understand that if you use it and it breaks, then the user is responsible to have it fixed. If your are not willing to pay if something gets broke then don't use it!!! simple as that!!!!
This club has a great group of people in it I would like to think that everyone who has the drive to want to use this would also have the decency to pay for it if it gets broke, thats all I'm saying.

my problem with every area having a par meter is in all honesty they are not going to be used all that often. if we had a library that got passed around at each function I feel it would be more beneficial. if we had 4 par meters how often do you think they would be used? My idea was based on the fact that the trustees would get possession of 1 piece of equipment and that trustee would be responsible for that piece until it was traded for another piece with a trustee of a different area at one of our functions be that one of our fests and the business meeting. That is 3 times a yr we get together and have an opportunity to exchange for a different piece of equipment.

You bring up some excellent points, but I believe that it's not quite as simple as that. There have been cases where people have just disappeared...trustees included. If they disappear with a $10 hole saw is one thing, if they disappear with a $400 PAR Meter, that's another. $400 represents the annual dues from 20 members and I feel like it's our responsibility to make sure that their investment into the club isn't taken lightly.

If anyone is really passionate about this and would like to suggest how they feel this could be best handled, shoot me a PM.

Have you ever came to the annual business meeting where all the financials are laid out for club members?
But yes, a website with this much usage & features is expensive to run, not just a couple hundred bucks a year.
And yes it goes to our Spring Fest, Fall Fest, speakers, and your local events such as demo's, Christmas Parties, tank tours and so on.

    IMO on the par meter.

I think we should invest in equipment for each area. I wouldnt do hole saws, too many sizes and they wear out too fast.

If we do it, we need to have an inventory & the trustee in charge would need to sign in & out the equipment at the beginning & end of their term. They would then be responsible for said equipment. When they loan it out to a MEMBER, it would need to be signed in & out & the responsibiliity for it would pass to that member along with a specified time.

That way if a $300 par meter would come up missing, someone would be held responsible for it.

Someone needs to come up with a list in its own thread, along with pro's & cons of each item and submit it to the BOD for discussion & vote.

The only thing I can really think of now would be par meters, and perhaps the Hanna Phosphate Checkers. (people would have to buy their own regents).
