So, it looks like I might be in need of a slightly larger sump. The trick will be trying to fit it under the tank right now. The stands frame is kind of boarded off. Lol. But, let me know if you have something that is about 12 in wide and 40+ that could work.

With tha amount of room you have under that stand, and the light fixture you have on top that you aren't going to use....how about this for a proposal...

Use your existing sump tank to the left, make a nice refugium out of it...have it flow into a second shallower tank that has a skimmer in a chamber to the left and a frag tank to the right. Use that light fixture for the frags!

I know ideally you would probably like the overflow water to hit the skimmer first but i think this might be a nice setup.

    I like the idea.

So, how do you hook them up? Do I drill holes between them and hard plumb them in and use gravity to move the water from one tank to the other? or ... do I use a pump? Not sure how the logistics of this would work.

yup, connect the two together, no pump required. You can find setups like this in the forums too if you want to do some searching. You might want the flow to the fuge to be a little slower so you could split the overflow into both tank and control the rate to the fuge with a valve, the rest will go to the skimmer section.

Alright, so, I think this is going to look more like this:

The flow into the fuge will be slower and the rest of the flow will go into the second tank just before the skimmer. Do the baffles for bubbles look right? or do I need some baffles on the other side of the skimmer instead?

Oh I can't wait to play when I get home /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Google sketch-up here I come! I might work around an aqua-c EV180 skimmer though /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

i would put the baffles between the skimmer and the return pump

    Here's what I was thinking...
Put all the fun green stuff in the fuge and rock where ever you want in the fuge or return chamber.  Sump outlet could dump right back in the sump chamber if you wanted it to go through the bubble baffles as well.
