looking for advice on wether to treat ich or not

    My 150g tank is about 3 months old and about 4 weeks ago I ordered around 10 fish. Two week ago the naso tang had a few spots that looked like ich. He came with some scatches so it was hard to tell if they were ich or scatches. He has been a good eater and active. On Friday the 24th my blue tang showed two spots and on saturday the 25th my flame angel had one spot on his tail. Today the 27th the blue tang has zero spots and the flame angel spot has almost resolved. The naso is still hard to tell but he has one posible spot on one fin. All my fish are not showing any other signs other than the white spots I mentioned. I have been running UV before I had fish and while they have been in the tank.


    My question is should I remove all my fish and treat them or let them ride it out.


    any advice would be apreciated thanks.

    Honestly, right now I wouldnt do anything treatment wise.

    Feed with garlic (Not a cure but will boost immune system).

    The issue may be when you add your next fish as that is when all your fish will be stressed and ich gets the upper hand.

    I am assuming you have corals or inverts, so in tank treatment is not an option

    Yes i do have a few corals and lots of inverts. I do have a 60g tank I could put the fish into but don't really want to. I have a few small fish that will be a pain to get out. Thanks for the advice

    How many fish do you have?...... Personally I would get the fish out of the tank and put them in a few 20 gal tanks.....copper them in a hospital tank ....... And I am guessing you will need another tank glass bottom. The main tank leave fish less for 60 to 72 days

    I only have a few coral so I think this may be a good time to take the fish out and treat. I think it will only get harder the longer I wait. I have 10 fish but hey are all small exempt med naso and flame angel. I have a 60g cube I can use for a hospital tank

    I totally agree with Craig aka xroads on this one. Just feed them some food laced with garlic oil. Keep them feed and happy and their immune system will kick the parasites.

    If you want some science rather than hippie magic... Go ahead and treat your tank for 21 days with crystallized peroxide salts. This has been proven to neutralize/inhibit, and kill the free floating and swimming stages of ciliated protozoa... Its effective and while not fast, if you keep up with parameters, you can save many fish.

    My Earnest suggestion would be to dose with CPS, drop your temps to around 70 over the course of three to four days, and lower your salinity to around 1.021-1.022.

    Your going to have to do this over time, about a weeks time will work well. This combination of hypo-salinity, along with lower temps will drop your fishes metabolism giving them more energy to fight the parasites. Once the parasites hit the free swimming stage they will be annihilated by the CPS.

    Just my 2 cents...

    (it also worked wonders on my 40/90 combo system Lost three fish out of 15 including the damn tang...)

    thanks Ill do some research on the peroxide salts. I'm just amazed how the fish are doing. All the spots are gone and no other signs of disease. They are eating well and appear happy. I know the ich is still in the tank but I think I have a good shot at keeping all the fish alive. I keep my salinity at 1.023 so I wont have to change it too much

    another thought would be to invest in a really good UV sterilizer.

    I have a 36 w turbo twist. It's not the best out there but the bulb is new. I think that might be what's keeping it at bay
