I was wondering if anyone might have any gravel laying around from an old tank teardown that they would like to part with for real cheap.
I am looking for gravel to get a cheap 55 gal planted tank setup going and my funds are limited.

I have a plastic/burlap sack of plain gravel that would probably cover the bottom of a 55 with about 1". It is perfect for plant substrate, pea-sized natural (unpainted).

I bought it back jr high and have been lugging it with me for 23 years. Wow, that is sad. I never thought of it that way.

    It's yours. PM me.

I also have 1/2 of a 5g bucket of blue and about 1.5 gal of white. Yours too if you want it.

I also have 1/2+ of 5g of washed pool filter sand which may or may not have a snail or two in it (been closed for over a year, so I doubt it, but who knows)

Also check with a landscape/rock company. You can usually get river rock or smaller pretty cheap. Just take a couple 5 gallon buckets and fill em up.

I am in Independence. I can travel out around cedar rapids or waterloo if need be.
I am looking for enough for a 55 gal. I would say 55-110 lbs preferably the latter.

Not very often, but I am working on a project inbetween IAC and CR and might be making more frequent trips over there soon. How soon do you need it? You could throw out a feeler thread to see if anyone is making the trip and I could meet up with them. I'll have to check to see exactly how much I have in that bag too.

I just noticed jimmy_beaner has a thread on the CR forum where he got rid of all his FW fish and has the substrate from his 55.
