    Hey all

Not sure if you saw the Reefbuilders story about the Thrive Water Lab, but we are thinking about getting one. It is a very large investment, so I am curious as to how many people think they would ever use it.

Basically it can test up to 23 different components.

It will record your tank history parameters

It will tell you what you need to dose & how much to bring parameters inline.

    Each test is roughly $2

    Advantages

    No more buying test kits.

Very accurate, wont have to worry about interpreting colors or charts any more.

    Convenient, tests take five minutes.

I would definitely do it. I only make it to the store a few times a year, but I would bring a water sample with me. I really don't like testing my water, and I also like having a secondary tester to verify my readings are close to accurate. I think it's a great idea!

Sounds like a good idea and I would probably give it a try if the machine was there, but that would probably be just the once.

If I owned a store I don't know if i'd dump a bunch of money on the first run of those things. I'd let them work the kinks out and see how well it preforms long term.

I saw these and thought wow cool but I am not sure the cost is justified just yet. Wish they were leased.

I would definitely use it but probably only a couple times a year would there be a way people could send you there water and you send them the results

sure that wouldnt be a problem. The other cool thing is it tracks your tank history, so you know if you are trending up or down on a particular test parameter

Is it $2 to get all 23 components? If so, I would test every time I come in until I felt the results were not telling me anything significant. I would also test more often when I thought there was any type of problem. I have 2 reeftanks and would test both.

I wish, but it is $2 per parameter. Most people wont need to test for things like PH, copper, and so on every time. I forsee common testing on the big 3, alk, calc, and magnesium.

If I remember Thrive right, don't they recommend dosing with their own products? I'm sure it'd be very useful and I did use their website for awhile to help keep track of my test results, which would be a nice thing that people could do along with you having the test unit.

But alas with most great things about AC&C I wish you were closer =P

Yes it is thrive. I havent carried their products yet.

However, the parameters are all the same, so if your magnesium is testing at 900, it doesnt matter what brand you use, you just know you need to get it up. They do give formulas for their products if you want to go that way though.
