Let me know what you have. I just started looking and still not sure if I am going to do this but if I find the right pump then might make me do it for sure /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif I am looking at 20+ feet from sump to tank.

It's kind of hard to figure out what kind of pump you would need without knowing more about your situation.  First, you need to determine how much flow you want to your tank and that will drive your decision.  Then, you may want to use a head loss calculator to determine how much head pressure you will have so that your net flow (after head loss) is a little more than the amount of flow you were looking for.  Go a little higher than you think that you will need so that you can add other things later if you want and allow for reduced flow over time as things slime up and accumulate crud over time.  Obviously, it's easier to throttle back than work to re-gain that lost flow.  Look here (http://www.reefcentral.com/index.php/head-loss-calculator) for the RC Head loss calculator.  You can plug in different pumps and see which one will meet your needs.  Also, another consideration is to elevate your sump and return pump to cut down on the head loss and you won't need as big of a pump.  The bigger the pump, the more $$.  Some of the larger pumps can run up to $500.  I know ruggerkc has a Reeflo Hammerhead in his garage which is a big pump; would certainly accommodate a nice, large tank and other stuff off of it like a frag tank, reactors, etc.  Most pump manufacturers will have head loss charts available on their websites which should also be another good resource for you...and if you decide to use a Rubbermaid tank for a sump, let me know...I have an extra one that I need to get rid of.

i would take up AJ on the sump and get a dolphin pump or even the hammer head. that way you can run your reactor and stuff off it too.

The plan is big as I can go with this pump /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif Plan on running the tank which will be running 2 vortechs so not worried about the return providing flow, a skimmer, 2 reactors and probably a frag tank. I already have a 40g stock tank for the sump and I did plan on elevating it all for ease of maintenance.

Gered lets talk about this. I am thinking of getting rid of my tarpon and getting a marlin so maybe we could work something out on this. I think no matter what, if you do this you should get a tarpon. Ime they are the best.

If Gered doesn't take it, let me know, I would be interested...I would like to have a backup on hand.

Joe your tank is big but not big enough for a marlin. That is like putting a tang in a 6 gallon nano!
