We could not get a place scheduled for the last Sat. Of Feb. so, we have conference room B reserved for March1, 2014 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at the Burlington library located at 210 Court St., Burlington, IA. Since the majority of us liked the idea of having our own UNOFFICIAL region board we will take nominations and possibly vote at this meeting unless the majority wants to vote at the April meeting. We also will be discussing ways to promote getting new members for our region and also what we would like to do for our first activity.

I called the library to day and they allow snacks and drinks in the conference room but the rules are nothing red. And the drinks have to have lids.

Thanks, I thought about it and then another mentioned it so we all decided it was a good idea that way it will help the trustee out for some of the work to. I agree that it may help with involvement too.

Just a reminder that our first regional meeting is on March 1, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Burlington Library. I also hear that we might have an AWSOME door prize! I know you will not want to miss out on this meeting and a chance for one of the best door prizes we will be offering at our monthly meetings. Remember, you're only eligible for the monthly meeting door prizes if you are a paid member.

Sorry for the late post on what was down in bed with a migraine Sunday. we decided to postpone nominations for the UNOFFICIAL regional BOD. I will start a thread to start taking nominations. If you would like to run for one of the spots speak up. We are looking for an Assistant Trustee (which would be the VP spot), Treasurer and secretary. Treasure would keep track of the budget balance and secretary would take notes at the meeting and post what was discussed at each meeting/event on the forum and on the Facebook group page.

We decided to have our first regional event as a DIY Food but decided to come up with our own recipe to reduce cost per bag. This event will be held on May 17, 2014 starting at noon with a potluck and discuss meeting agenda items and then go to work on the prep of the DIY Food. I will be starting a separate thread for this so we can start the planning of this recipe and set-up before then. At least we will have one more meeting before this. I am still waiting on a phone call from the library to schedule the next meeting for April 12 from 3-5pm. We can not have it the first Sat. due to the Spring Fest in Des Moines. Hope to see you all there. I know I will be. it is my birthday present to myself, lol.

I will be contacting my Facbook friend Danny about setting up a Skype Meeting for him to be our guest speaker. When I brought the idea up to him I told him I would like for him to talk about the methods he uses for budget savings for dosing methods. once we get everything set up I will post an update on this event.

We also talked about ideas for promoting the club and trying to get new members for our region. We decided the cost of advertising would be too expensive. Another idea was to talk to doctors and other professionals that may be more able to afford the hobby. If someone would like to take on this challenge please free free to step up to the plate. I myself am not one for "cold calling" so to speak. Another idea was to set up a table at the local Pigeon Show (this one was mine) and have flyers to hand out and talk to people about the hobby and just to get the word out about GIRS and that there is a new regional group in the area now. Any other ideas are welcome.

Roger Carter and his wife Said they would host a meeting right before their Halloween party that they host every year and that we all would be welcome to stay afterwards. If I remember right (since I didn't get the date wrote down) they said Oct. 25. This is something decide for sure at the next meeting. I know the Fall Fest for GIRS will probably be in Nov. and then we have Thanksgiving and Christmas and think it will be hard to have a meeting in Nov. and Dec. and think this would be a great idea to do and then just have a social get together for pizza or something for beginning of Dec. I would be surprised if we could get the majority of the members to show up due to the busy holidays.

That is about all that was discussed. I will be posting guidelines for meetings. It was brought to my attention which I noticed myself that we all like to talk about things and get off task. We need to set some guidelines for the meetings so we can get things accomplished and not fall off task. These guidelines will just be a starting point and want all members involvement on this. I myself felt we should have been able to get tentative dates set up for the whole year and not just a couple of months. We will need to stay on task and finish the meeting then we can take time to visit afterwards. We had should only need to have meetings last about a hour at most. this would leave an hour to visit afterwards or members can leave if they have things they need to do.
