Just received one of these new Maxspect Gyres. First impression was that it moves alot of water in a very unique way, however the reverse gyre mode seems to be pretty useless so far. Havent tried it with the different propeller options yet, so maybe that will help out the alternating gyre mode. I really like how much water it moves with a single unit, but alot is made of the reverse mode and so far that seems pointless as its to weak with my current A+B setup. I will try the other options and see what that does.

Anyone else have one of these they want to chim in on? So far overall I am impressed, but wish the reverse mode was better.

With mine I get the impression that the reverse mode isnt really useful unless you are using it vertically placed. If you swap and experiment with the paddles and placement you can get it going well that way. I think horizontally the flow pushes directly back towards the glass before it is diverted out of the cage downwards. It might be more useful for deeper tanks that way but any tank over 36 inches long it makes too much dead space in the opposite end.

Somehow when it got out there was a reverse mode people just assumed you set reverse mode and good to go. That's not really the case as told by the owners manual. Reverse mode is only for when you switch paddles - one side goes full force while the other only produces weak flow until it alternates. People just have the wrong idea about that mode.

Yeah I gathered that after reading a bit more. After I got it set at the right height and angle this things is working wonders. Really like how different the water gets moved. Time will tell how they hold up.
