    Our first regional event of the year is coming up at the end of February, date TBD. I'm currently playing phone tag with the administrator of the North Liberty Community Center, but Feb 25 or 26th (fri/sat) are looking like promising possibilities!
    Anyways, I need to start developing the itinerary and material for the next meet and I'd like everybody to weigh in on the topic, I've got two ideas I'd like everybody to vote on;
    -Disease, Diagnosis, and Dilemmas;
        We'll discuss the clinical
    symptoms of some of the common, as well as the not so common viruses,
    parasites, bacteria and fungi. Provide and review templates and a list
    of resources for clinical work ups to prepare with specimens that are
    mailed off to diagnostic laboratories. We'll end with a workshop on
    performing necropsy, taking tissue biopsies for histology review, and
    discuss the process of operating on live fish.
    -Plumbing Solutions;

    Demo and discussion about working with PVC, how to maximize efficiency,
    reduce strain on pumps, and build reliable plumbing systems for peace
    of mind. We'll also take an elementary look at controllers and talk about which systems are available and what they can provide for us.
    I'm always open to suggestion for future topics, and I've had a few suggestions that I'll option a couple of months out, PM me for future ideas.
    Thanks guys!

    FYI guys I'm going to close this poll Monday and start looking at the winning topic and developing the material for our meet, I have a lot of resources to pool from, but it's going to take me some time to put it all together.

    Hey kylie, I ended polling on Monday and locked it down. The material for the meeting is coming along very nicely. I have a nice ppt to accompany our activities. Ill have diagnostic forms and we'll practice fixing, staining, and preparing specimens for mail out. The ppt also has a nuber of slides to introduce everybody to the histological views of different tissue biopsies so that we can all make better diagnosises at home with a simple microscope. Of course I'm always available to the community with my micrfoscope, but first everyone must be educated on how, and what to prepare specimens for review. The diagnostic usefulness of any specimen depends highly on its preservation and I have discrete steps outlined as well as specific tissues that are most helpful depending on wwhich type of disease is suspected (I'm building a basic outline of 8 of the most common diseases)
    So yea! It should be fun! The meet will be att the north liberty community center sat feb 26 from 3-5pm. Hope to see ya there!

    I'll do my best to be there /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif Saturdays are my days off so, as long as I don't have an outrageous number of midterms that following week, I'll be there /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
