Purchased 40lbs of this by mistake, but it says it's saltwater safe. I dumped both bags in and I noticed that it had a metallic color to it. So I took a magnet over the sand and it picked some up. Just curious if this really is safe or not. Going in a 60 cube zoa tank.

Never heard of it...went to CaribSea site. Doesn't say much. What does it list for metals, anything? You could call/contact them and ask what's in it. I however would not use it no matter what they say...lol. Too bad you opened it before you saw you had picked the wrong kind up:9(

I had planned on pulling it out unless someone told me they use it. It wasnt much with the place i got it from, so I'm not out much. I was just hoping to not have to pull 40lbs of it back out of the tank.

Yeah, extra work:oops: A good choice I think. SW tanks get enough heavy metals over their lifetime so adding more isn't good... Don't throw it out as someone might want it:0)

I'd be worried about picking up the particles on the mag cleaners and scratching the glass all up as well as possible issue with reactions to the metal itself. I have a few nice scratches from the mag cleaning picking up normal sand, I could only imagine it would be much, much worse with magnetic particles mixed in there. Personally I wouldn't use it in my tank even if it was reef safe just because of the magnet aspect.

Had it in a system a long time ago. It was completely safe for the livestock but would literally jump into magfloat if you got within a inch. Tank got crazy scratched. Pull it out!

Black sand is magnetic so I wouldn't be worried about it

Would be my concern as well. Nice catch on finding that out!
