when mixing instant ocean reef salt the directions say
"stir vigorously" I under stand that
"We suggest aerating this water until it achieves oxygen/carbon dioxide equilibrium"
does this mean that a pump in the water moving water is all I need or a power head drawing air into the water to mix it up better?
in the past when I got saltwater that I didn't use immediately I would keep it in a tank with only a pump to move water.
    Thanks

not sure why you would need to adl kalk to fresh saltwater, seems it would overload you on alk and cal.

But yeah I just use a powerhead to mix my salt, and let it get to room temp.

I use a large Rio pump to mix the salt in my saltwater mixing tank, but I also have a MaxiJet 1200 on there with the venturi attached that I use for oxygenating the water. And you shouldn't need to add kalk, unless you are using the standard Instant Ocean salt and not the Reef Crystals salt. I would recommend the Reef Crystals because it also has other trace elements in there too.

I am using the Reef Crystals salt and not adding any thing to it.
the room temp in my basement is 70 so I do turn a heater for awhile before I add the water to get it up to 75 or 76 so it's not that bad.
the little MaxiJet (don't see a # on there) I use, doesn't draw air in and when I hook up a air pump it only bubbles big bubbles not the fine ones to amputate the water that much.
    Thanks for the input

The problem with adding lime (kalk) is that it will boost the pH and alkalinity too much, causing potential precipitation of calcium carbonate, which will not redissolve in the tank.

Coralline actually consumes a significant amount of magnesium.  Are you dosing mag also?  If not, I'm betting your mag is really low or you do a lot of water changes.
