MJB Tanks – another acrylic shop in Des Moines

    After working with Bud (Turbo's Aquatics) on a few projects in his shop, we discussed the need for possibly another custom acrylic shop. So, I set up MJB Tanks and I'm ready and anxious to get going on some projects!


    I'll be working on a sump next week for my own system and I'll post a progress thread.

    Bud and I have been friends since before GIRS was around, so I want it to be clear that I'm not really intending to compete with him.  He is still making tanks & sumps, but right now he's pretty busy making Algae Scrubbers.  We have had much discussion and will continue to consult with each other and work together on larger projects.


    Both of us have similar shop setups and assist each other when needed and will probably work together on material supply...so our prices are likely to be pretty much the same.  Our goal when discussing having a second acrylic shop in town was to increase capacity and cut down the amount of time it takes to deliver a quality product.  Come to either one of us to discuss you ideas and we will work together to see that you are taken care of!

    Thanks Pete! I'll need to swing by again sometime and see that tank...I'm sure you have the sump up and running by now!

    I've been on vacation over the past week and forgot to post on here! Mike and I go back to good ol' college days and we kept crossing paths throughout the years until we bumped into each other on here. We worked together to build his tank, and he has helped me on several other tanks when I needed help setting up and bonding extra-long seams. We've bounced many ideas off each other and learned things faster when working together.

    I learned a few things while building and using my router table, and passed that knowledge on. I think Mike is set up pretty well for larger builds than I can accommodate.

    Also I'm headed into a busy time at work, I and 2 others recently bought out the previous owner, and we have to go on a big marketing push to keep the jobs coming in. Therefore I'm likely going to stick to just building Algae Scrubbers for a while, with maybe a small project here or there.

    The bottom line is that you're going to get a good product from either of us.
