I've only had my tank up for about 6 months and I'm starting to accumulate frags now. I have 2 fighting conches that live in the sand bed and they constantly move frag plugs around that are on the sand bed.

My question is, what is the best way to mount these frags on the live rock? Or would it be better to try and remove my frags from the plugs? Things like Zoas seem fairly easy to remove from the plugs but what about encrusting corals that are half way over the frag plugs? Should I just glue or epoxy them to a chunk of live rock in the tank?

Any youtube videos or other blog posts would be greatly appreciated for help. Everything I find is how to mount frags on the plug, not mounting the plugs in the display tank...

I have always cut the bottom of the plug off then used instant ocean holdfast epoxy to glue the frag to the rock

I have always used Jb water weld. You can find it at menards, home Depot etc next to all the other epoxies. Cheap and works the best imo... I also put super glue gel inbetween the frag plug and the epoxy and on the bottom of the epoxy right before I press it into my live rock (I just think it sets up a little quicker and a little extra hold)

I also snap most of my plugs flush little armydog said.... unless they have a perfect little hole to push into

Sometimes I cut the pin off of plug sometimes I leave it on. Depending on where I am mounting it. If the pin fits in a hole in rock I put some 2 little fishes 2 part epoxy that I get from bulk reef supply and put some around the bottom of plug and mash it in the hole. If there is no hole I cut the pin off and super glue it where I want it.

I always cut to base of plug off then put a liberal amount of gel superglue from dollar store on bottom. Then press and turn on rock tell the glue grabs a little. Then I take a tooth pick and spred the glue onto the rock for a tight hold. Works like a charm I never find a dislodged frag. The key is to spread the glue.

If the frags haven't completely encrusted over the base you can take a razor blade between the frag and the plug to separate them. I hate the look of the plugs, so I either pop the frags off or cut them near the base with some dental nippers.
