Hey all. I picked up a 120 and am going to start getting it all set up soon. I am wanting to do a reef but am going to be taking it SLOW. Well slow for me anyways. Lol money is the key. Trying to sell off the last bits of stuff i have to consolodate to one BIG tank. So heres my list as follows.

    120 oceanic tank,
    stand,
    2 200 watt heaters,
    koralia 3 and 4,
    quietone 4000 return,
    Hopefully a 3x150 mh with 4/96 w pc,
    55gal sump,
    skimmer, and
    Uv sterilizer.

    100lbs sand, and
    100lbs rock.

As far as livestock id like to do tangs. Iknow i know that they need 6'. Id love to have the following. Probably not all but just my dream list-

    Yellow tang,
    hippo tang,
    Koran angel
    bicolor Angel,
    2 per clowns,
    asst gobies ,
and after a while a clam of some kind.

Im open to input so let me know!

I dont have a hippo yet but want one. I had a yellow but my purple didnt like the yellow's nose up its butt all the time. My purple, sailfin, and kole tang are doing fine with my koran angel and coral beauty. Live stock list looks fine. May need to push the rock more towards the back of the tank to allow for swimming room. I also have a perc and tomato clown in my tank and they are fine together but they have their side of the tank lol. I don't know if I'd use the UV. Some corals like the water a little dirty but the hippo doesnt as much so if you plan to have mushrooms no hippo from what i've heard/read(I am more than likely wrong lol) A 55 for a sump? is that going to be in stand or sitting behind it? Also the 55s are narrow so not much room to get an in sump slimmer in them. You could do HOB but you'd probably need 2 of them with the water column or an external skimmer completely. What are you plans for the sump? Going to have a fuge to tumble cheato in? My setup isnt the greatest but I'm always willing to throw in what I'm doing and what I wish I did so others have things better off.

The 55 would be under it. I know that they are pretty narrow. Why i hate it. Lol but, if it doesnt sell ill use it. If it does then ill try and get a 40 breeder. Its either that or i use my 20g oceanic sump. Im not sure yet what im doin for a skimmer.

You should look at DIY LED. You will save money up front and in the long run.

Do you mean 6 foot instead of 5? Pretty sure a 5 foot would be 100 gallons and a 6 would be 120.

L x W x H (in inches) / 2.31 = volume in gallons. This is how every tank size is calculated, except that is outer dims so a glass 120 24x24x48 comes out at 119.6g but it actually only holds about 105.

It's a marketing trick. Kind of like how you buy a 100 GB hard drive only to find out it is actually only 93 GB because it's not 1024^3 bytes/GB, it's 1000^3 bytes/GB.

Those pesky decimal points. Put them in the wrong spot and the tanks just get huge LOL. I think its supposed to be 231.

    Try L x W x H x 0.004329

    Its a 110 gallon Oceanic Reef Ready tank I think. Oceanic 110 is 5' x 18" x 24" high

Reef calulater says 112.2 my money is its a 110gal reef ready. You have to take about an inch or more off for huge rims Oceanics have.

I wouldn't. There's a lot of crud in that water that would cause you more probelms down the road than it'd be worth.
