Drill it and sump it. Ditch the hob filter and go with the skimmer.

I thought about it but just wasnt a fan of having my sump. Its something ive been contemplating and thinking about but the extra costs and supplies just doesnt push me over the line. I like the look of a sump'd tank but the rational behind it for me just isnt enough to make me do it.

What extra cost? a $10 tank and a couple dollars in plumbing and you have a sump. You get the added benefit of higher water volume, and you can hide all the other equipment and have a clean display.

my last "attempt" at a sump turned out horrible... lol I am selling my current sump and pump with my cube tank so id need to buy another pump, the plumbing is cheap. but then go to SOM have Hung drill it. Thats almost $40. Ill think about it... i do like the idea of having all the ugliness hidden. but the extra work and money just doesnt seem to be worth it.

you can drill it yourself its not hard. i might be selling my aquaticlife 115 skimmer that would go perfect with your plans.

Little update: I passed on the overflow box. I got my drillbit. Ordered a black 90* pvc to use as my overflow. Also got an ugly but functional return locline.

word of advice from someone who has flooded a million floors.

Once you get everything going, kill the power to see how much back flows into the sump. If you have your returns too far under the water, half the tank will end up on the floor.

Im gonna try and mirror my drill ap. I could fill the sump 2" from the top, kill the power and my water level would go to the top of the sump

If it's not too late maybe paint the back glass panel..It really helps to hide misc. stuff.....Plus it looks really nice. Some people have done blue but I really like my black painted glass./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

+1. Painting it. Some people have gotten vinyl stickies cut to size so that you could change colors later, but a can of spray paint is cheap and easy.

Black makes your corals and fish really pop.

    Looks good so far Travis.
