I deleted that post after we had mike removed from the club. I tried editing much of it first but by the time I got done there was not anything left of the thread. Trust me I heard about it too.

Another bad thing about the technology that lets us interact through the interwebs instead of face to face. It all too often the way something is typed is not the way the other person reads and interprets it. Then add to that the common occurance of a response coming several posts later and its not exactly clear who the response is directed at. Message boards can be so fun LOL.

Maybe if we did away with the message boards and just stricly had monthly meetings. I think I'm on to something now. That's probably getting back to the original club days.

The elected BOD has been involved in this and is communicating openly with each other as we have had the time in our schedules. The only BOD member that is not involved will be as soon as they return back to the country. As David said I am not sure who you sent PMs to in the past year, but they were not relayed to me as a Trustee at the time. There are several new members and we are working together to resolve issues and make changes as they arise. We have already meet once as a Board, we will continue to meet and address issues.

If you do not get a response from a board member, please contact another. For 10 days I was out of the country building homes with Habitat and during that time, I did not respond. Jeanette is currently out of the country and she is unable to respond as well. As it has been said if you use the contact us link that can be found under the About GIRS tab. All the elected BOD members get the e-mail forwarded to them. Make a post in the club business forum.

Please remember we are all volunteers. Today I tried to work a 16 hour day and also do things for the club. We are working to host a successful business meeting, are well on our way to having a successful Spring Fest and also Fall Fest has begun its trip to success. I look forward to serving and hope that we can make progress.

Also remember that during the transition time, not all of us were rigged up 100% due to one thing or another, and getting all the BoD e-mails sent to the general e-mail box. We largely rely on volunteers to make such back-end changes, and if certain trusted people with appropriate rights have events going on that prevent them from being able to perform such back-end tasks, things don't happen lickety split. We do plan to try and "plug" these types of "holes" through documentation of procedures.

This might be a good thread to explain to the new people why some post are deleted and some post are not. Why is it policy not to delete threads. Why is it policy not to confront people who attack others on for sale threads.

I'm not saying these are all bad, but an explanation would stop people from"making up" their own information. This would be a great thread and very productive if everyone learns from it. I would like to know the reasoning behind some of the choices that are made by the BOD.

None of this post is meant to be negative or say the BOD is doing a bad job. I, as a "kinda new" guy would like to know.

I Love the GIRS site as a hole.
And everybody that runs the behind the seen stuff does an awesome job.
This post has 922 views so I think people r interested.
I simply asked "why was this deleted" and hoped the person who deleted it would tell me?

It is policy to never delete any posts Unfortunately the BOD does not currently have any kind of training manual and list of these policies to point to when its trustees and new BOD members get their accounts updated and get the ability to delete and edit posts. Usually what happens is a post will get deleted by someone not knowing the policy, and then they will be made aware of the policy not to delete something. Kind of backwards, and causes some real headaches as you can see. Training the trustees on proper use of the added tools is something that has been on the to do list of this year's BOD since before we officially took office. It will get done sooner than later especially after this fiasco.

As its been said, the reasoning for this is accountability. We want to keep a record of the incidents if there was ever a need to have that information available. With the current software when something is deleted it is gone. Its not just hidden from the members and it can not be restored. I wish there was a way to remove it from the forums while still keeping it available if needed. That kind of junk we are talking about does unfortunately turn people away from the site, and the club.

As far as confronting people that attack others in the forums it is and always will be the policy of the BOD to confront them and handle the situation as necessary. With a BOD of busy volunteers this doesn't always happen as soon as we would like, but it is in discussion from the moment the BOD has been made aware of the issue. I assure you my phone has been blowing up the past few days with PMs and e-mails as we gather information about the issues.

Personally I think seeing so many members freak out over a minor procedural thing does more damage to recruitment than seeing a couple of people have a beef with each other on the forum, which isn't even what was deleted.
A member said he was done posting, the thread was deleted so he must have changed his mind. I can totally understand why the board member thought it was no big deal to delete it. It literally had no effect on anybody.

It did have a effect you have now lost a sponsor that did things for the club like giving a huge zoas chunk for the fragging demo and give it to the members who showed up . Free BBQ dinner twice this tear and paying my membership . So like I said it is what it is .

    No affect? Minor?
This is exactly why new members should see the post.
I personally would want new members to see this behavior by a "sponser /board member" it's absolutely uncalled for.
Thanx basement bay for stepping up.
U answered my question and that's an honest answer.

Speaking as a co-owner of an online forum, we never delete posts. Ever. We don't care how ugly, nasty, embarrassing, or bad it is. And we don't let members deleted their posts, either. Their edit window closes in 5 minutes and at that point what they wrote is there permanently.

In the beginning we did edit and/or delete the really heated threads and also posts at the request of the posting member. What developed was a very bad problem with people taking advantage of that. Some would get into arguments, blowing thier top, cussing people out, and then later ask a mod to delete their diatribes. Another thing that happened was with the longer edit window some people were saying really heinous things and leaving them just long enough for thier intended target and audience too see it and then they would delete to avoid the community's pushback.

People didn't have to be responsible for what they said because they could just make it go away. Some of it was deliberate viciousness coupled with advantageous use of the system, and some of it was just regret over words posted in haste and anger.

Either way, when we changed the policy we found that people were much more careful about their words. When what you write is going to be there for forever, and you can be held accountable for them, people post in a more responsible manner.

I think it is a great policy and it greatly reduced the number of real problems on our site.

I meant you deleting your own post effected nobody. You quitting the club however obviously does have an effect.

Why would anyone, except for people that get off on it, want to see bad behavior on a forum that is supposed to be fun. If you are in this hobby to make other peoples lives hell, then you need off forums like this because you ruin it for the rest of us.

What deters people from doing wrong is the fear of getting kicked off. Getting rid of bad people is not a bad thing. Who cares if you have a bazzilion members if they are all jerks. (not everyone on here is a jerk).

Leaving negative post on a positive site is counter productive.

Softieatheart, what kind of forum do you co-own? If it is a site that designed to create discourse then that is ok. (political for instance). There is a place for that. If it is an educational, inspirational, and hobby related forum then I would respectfully disagree.

People like me only lurk for fear of saying something wrong. When it comes to ethics and management, I feel pretty confident. But that does not mean I'm always right.

I would like to thank everyone who has shown concern for the well being of the club. While someone has said that they deleted the post, we know that the system is not designed to allow that. We understand that this person is trying to diffuse the situation, but in full honesty from the elected board officials we do not believe that this person deleted the thread. We are and have been collecting as much information as we can on the situation and are taking action. If you have information feel free to PM any member of the board and we will make sure the proper person responds.

This thread will be locked and any thread of the same topic will also be locked. The BOD is in discussions and will post any information relative to the topic as it becomes necessary.

    Thank You
