Yesterday I was topping off my tank with my ro unit, forgot it was on and left and got my kids haircut and did some shopping. Came home to my sump overflowing and my salinity dropped to 1.017. Fish were still swimming around and most corals were all still open. I was freaking out, Ive never dont that before. I really need to get an ATO. Ive overflowed my RO tanks too many times.. Luckily for me I had 20g of premixed salt ready to go...

That does suck. I have done a water change and forgot to shut off ato while siphoning out water before but salinity only went down to 1.022. I was lucky also. Hope everything works out for you.

Sucks it happened, but luckily it doesn't sound like it did any damage. Definitely time to invest in an ATO.

I would be happy to help! You just need to have space for a R/O container close to your tank. I use a 5gal bucket.

Here is my system, but I don't use the Relay system any more. I just use my Break out box from my apex in place of it. I love it, because Apex lets me know when I need to fill r/o back up in the 5gal bucket. Now I have forgot to turn off my R/O unit many times and water every were, but its in a utility area so no big deal.

I don't understand why one would top off with an RO unit? Why not have an RO reservoir with a cheapo float valve?

Anyways, I agree it's ATO time.

Deff need to set up a ato. Even doing it daily manually would be better than taking the risk of this happening again.
