I normally take a sample of my tank water to a lfs and have it tested and find out I need a little of this or a little of that and then im on my way, but the last time I was there was cause things were starting to look pretty bad and I was getting worried..  After testing my water they looked stunned and asked me what did I do to my tank recently, I told them nothing but weekly water changes and added some/alot ( on accident ) marine buffer... Well my ph was right on but my calcium was really low and my alk was really high.. So Instead of relying on my lfs to be kind as they are to test my water every once and awhile, I need a good test kit that does just about anything I would need to test for..
Also why is it all the expensive zoas melt first???
    Thanks
    Adam

LOL Adam. I have that same problem with Zoas.

Sounds like your MAG may be screwy have them test that I think it cost like 3 bucks.

API tests kits are ok but just ok for what ever thats worth.

Salifert tests for calcium and magnesium. Love my hanna meters for alk, and phosphate.
As for the basic PH, Nitrate, Nitrite, and ammonia tests I just use API on those.
