Guys I need help here. I haver had a nice Biocube going for awhile.. Everything has looked great and fish looked healthy. Two days ago I wake up and I cannot find one of the fish.. I finally hunt it down and see my skunk cleaner (also recently added) picking at it in side of a rock. THen the next day I find another fish died.. and This morning I find yet another fish dead inside a hole of a rock.. Do you think the skunk cleaner could be killing the fish?? Or do I have a mystery crab?? REally ticked off here..

If there in a biocube be sure to check BEHIND the back walls, even take out your return pump and such. I have several of my small fish that are jumpers get stuck back there.

But if the skunk cleaner is a recent ad, I wouldn't say he's the one eating/attacking them.... they are cleaners and generally regarded as nice. If you see him scavenging on a dead body, that's a whole different story altogether. HOWEVER, you said this was a recent addition???

How 'recent' are you talking? Where'd you get him? Did you QT? Sounds like he might have been carrying something that got introduced into the tank....

    Any other recent changes?

No I have found every one that was dead. 2 of them were found inside of the rock work. I really do not think it was natural causes. The dead fish had no signs of anything wrong with them pre and post death. THey were healthy swimming around the day before and they always came up missing at night. Fins nipped a bit.

NOw the other clown is breathing heavy and swimming weird.. SO I think something is going on with my tank but all parameters are in check.. No nitrates, nitrites, amoonima.. calcium and alk are in check..

Do you have good flow and oxygen exchange? Did you make any recent changes to the tank? Started dosing anything? Putting a reactor online? Added a new fish? Checked for stray current? Have you verified with a second set of test kits that the parameters are "in check"?

There could be a fish killer in the tank, its just so hard to tell unless you witness it.

Ok, so at least you know where they all are, now it's just determining why/how they died.

Fins nipped/shredded= predator, or fin rot... Who in the tank can get them? and is the tank clean. (which if your params are in order, should be the nipping). Would really need to *see this to verify though.

Clowns breathing hard and weird swimming = something in the water.... Labored breathing in a clown results from a handful of things. Stressors such as poor water quality, temp sikes/drops, tank mate aggression and such. OR disease (probably too far gone by this point if it is this),

params in check= Sudden changes (ie top off too quick, temperature spike/drop... look at seemingly obvious things too, heaters go wack all the time). OR disease (may not be visible, but symptoms might be) ie swimming weird, labored breathing. MAKE SURE YOUR TEST KITS AREN'T OUT OF DATE, this can give you horribly inaccurate results.

If you can, I'd go back and look at the bodies closer, make sure there's nothing else visibly wrong? Very small red streaks, inflamed gill plates (even if only slightly), enlarged vent area, 100% clear eyes or not.... ALL of these things give you clues to how or what happened to them.

Observation is going to be your best friend right now. Then swift action. This sounds to me like your recent addition brought something to the tank.... if there was no QT then I would strongly lean towards this as a cause.

    Keep us updated.

Man sorry to hear about your fish. Hope you get the problem figured out and soon. I think Jazzy and Runner have covered all the possibilities but hey we all still learn new things about this obsession everyday. Keep us posted.
