I have no problem dealing with Xenia, Anthellia, Aiptasia or even red planaria, but these purple mushrooms are REALLY starting to piss me off.   I curse the day I ever thought it was a good idea to put one in my tank, because now I have thousands...   On the live rock, on the overflows, on the glass, in the substrate, everywhere!
Short of cooking every piece of rock in the tank at the same time, I don't know what I'm going to get rid of these @#$@^%'s
Anyone have any bright ideas?   I'd even consider putting in a non-reef safe fish if I new it would much them out of existance...
I'm pulling my hair out over this and those of you who know me know I don't have enough hair to last very long!

    I would if:
    1) they were actually worth something2) there was actually a market for 1000's of them3) they would come off the rock without turning into jelly only to come back 10 fold.4) I hated the person that actually wanted to buy them

I thought about that too, but they are so big that I don't think it would get them... I think it would just cause them to multiply faster.   I thought about kalk paste too, but I'm not a big fan of that method because if you're treating a whole tank full, it causes really nasty ph spikes.

I would either start pulling rock or kalk a few at a time to avoid fore-mentioned ph spikes. You got quite a large volume of water, it's gonna take quite a bit of kalk to cause a major spike that would adversely affect your livestock.

Coral Warfare. I had the same problem, but only on a large piece of live rock. Not thousands but maybe 50. I took a couple heads of torch coral and sat it right in the middle of the rock and it is slowly killing/stinging the mushrooms off. Mushrooms suck once they get outa hand. Good Luck

+1  for wavers ideas of target areas every other day, or pulling rock. I have used a tote with very high SG/kalk and do a dip/soak depending on severity. Do FW rinse then back in tank. Might kill off lots of other things however, but it sounds like you are ready for anything!Good luck!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/w00t.gif

another thing that works if you have a needle and syringe is to inject the base with lemon juice. This also works well for aptasia. Just do a small section at a time and be sure to let them sit for a day before removing!

I'd just swap out the rock. Someone would surely buy the shrooms.

I think that would be best too. Someone would love a tank full of easy to keep mushrooms. I'd cycle your new rock and do a quick swap and perhaps an lfs will sell it for you and split the profit. They do that around here. May be worth a shot.

I use a sharp spear on the ones that are touching other coral. It doesn't work for long but it makes me feel better. Maybe I could make a small garden weasel and grind them up small so they really spread around.
When a rock is nicely covered I flip it over and bury the mushrooms into the sand.
I think I need a better solution myself.
Waverz advice is good I think, kalk a bit at a time.

It's futile, there is NO way to get rid of them. I literally have taken rocks out and scrubbed them clean with a steel brush, and dipped it in freshwater and then into salt water in a 35 gallon bucket for a week, only to have them return 7-8mths later.

    Get rid of those rocks
