So I found a good deal on a blue spotted jawfish yesterday, could not pass it up. Put him in the tank last night about 6 and he seemed to be really happy, started digging and trying to take frag plugs to his burrow etc. I got up for work and found him on the floor next to the tank, still alive barely. Picked him up and chucked him back in fast, he just sank to the bottom and sat there breathing really hard and fast. He is now moving around and looking semi ok but he is covered with sand.
So the idea I need is for a cover for my 29G biocube, I dont use the stock hood, Im running a Nova Extreme Pro fixture instead. Right now its a frame of egg crate with plastic mesh wire covering the middle. I can see the hole he wiggle through in the egg crate, its covered with slime etc.

Thanks man. Yeah he managed to get through the hole in the frame that is made out of egg crate, no clue how the hell he fit lol. He is looking pretty good so far, the membrane on his eyes is kinda cloudy still, I really hope that gets better, poor thing

Bummer, sounds like you had a fairly tight screen on top, it is amazing what they can fit through.
Man, I really want one of those fish but just can't justify the $$$.

Get a glass top, I got one for my Nano cube, and it was the greatest thing ever.

I guess I will look into having something made, the biocube has a goofy shape to it. For now I have a good cover in place, there is no way he is getting through it!

Personally i like the look of the stock lid that comes with the biocube. That along with a Stevie T's fish saver even jumping fish stay contained. Now you got me thinking about a BLue Spot. Damn you.

It is by far my favorite fish. I have been wanting one for a while now, been reading up on them and watching for a deal on one, had the cover ready and all that /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif. Finally found one that was within my price range so I grabbed it. Obviously I under estimated its determination to carpet surf, I really did not think it would/could fit through the holes in egg crate. When I saw him on the floor I instantly felt like crap because I thought he was dead.

He is back to normal now. Hoping he moves into his little pvc house I made for him and sunk in the sand. So far he just wants to hide in the rocks and come out for food only. Such a cool fish though, they just look smart and they are so curious.

So he is back to 100%, his eyes cleared up and he looks totaly normal. I think the rubble I had in there for him is too big so I spent a couple hours breaking up some rock and shells into small pieces and scattering them around the PVC house thingy. He still has not shown any interest in it, but its only been a few days.

I like the stock lid as well, but I wanted something a little better for lights. My next 29g biocube will keep the stock hood for sure.
