Hey. I'm going to be selling my tank soon and need to get the fish/inverts out first.

I have 2 clownfish, 2 small ceriths, 5-6 large cerith snails, 2-3 blue legged hermit crabs, 2 red scarlett crabs, and a small peppermint shrimp.

I had a major malfunction in my tank as water gushed out and got cords wet last night. We've tried to plug things back in and my poor husband got shocked several times. We have everything unplugged at the moment so don't know how much time we have until things start going downhill but all are doing well at the moment.

It cost me around 70-80 bucks for everything. Feel free to make me an offer. I really don't know what to ask for them. Just don't have the heart to let them die/flush them away so would like to find a home for them quick!

    Thanks,
    Stacy

Wow I am really sorry to hear that.

    Where do you live?

If you are close to Waterloo I can hold them for you until you get things up & going again

    Good Luck

were are you located?  Maybe I could help I am an electrician.  Hopefully you can at least find a safe way to power a heater and powerhead.  that should keep things going for a little while.

thanks for the offers. We'll hold off for now xroads but thanks and I'll let you know. We're in the CR area southwest side.

We just plugged back in the small pump as it seems to work ok and we have an extra heater I've used for water changes so we just plugged that in too. As I said in my other post I think it was, our heater didn't seem to be working overnight could that be because the cord got wet???. We're just stearing clear of the power strip as that seemed to be the problem with the shocking. jsprague...... my husband figured out why he got shocked. The hood where the lights are was still filled with water when he tried to plug them in.

Let me know what's going on...I can swing over and help out. The sooner the better. Saltwater damages things quickly.

actually yes things are both looking and smelling a little better. I got things aquascaped and that looks nice. a couple minor changes which I like better actually:) good excuse to have to change things right?? I'm hoping my corals come back though, they sure aren't looking very good, but they've been through a lot here! Can't believe these clownfish and inverts I've got left must be resilient!!!

I just checked my temp and I'd had my heater on a little high to get the temp up last night and noticed it was up to 86, so I just took the heater out for a little while. I just need to remember to keep checking the temp now. SHould I put some cold RO water in?? other ideas to get it down quicker or will I be ok? I'm checking on a few more snails/crabs that I'm not sure they're making it but most of them are.

I've emptied both the skimmer and the sponge several times already today and I'm getting alot of brown gunk out of those!!! That part still smells pretty bad but just smelling from the top of the tank is not as bad. We topped of the water enough last night to get the main pump going and we've actually got everything going now even the lights and they're doing fine.

THe crabs/snails/shrimp and clownfish are doing great. The inverts are really moving today and are busy eating!!! Josh just went to get more RO water and then we'll get her ready for the big 50% change.

Thanks again for the help AJ!!!

Glad to hear that. As to the temp, personally, I would just let the temp come down on its own. My concern would be that a sharp change in temp would be as much of a shock as the heat is now. Without the heater, it shouldn't take long. Just keep your heater set to 79 and check it to make sure that it's working right and keeping the temp stable. Remember to use that little powerhead to get that detritus suspended in the water so it can be caught by your skimmer and sponge. Also, use your magnet to wipe off the glass to keep anything that may have settled on the glass in suspension. Keep it up for a few days and things should start recovering. Good luck!!

temp is ok now:) I'm so glad I didn't have to work today because I've spent a lot of time using the little powerhead stirring all that detritus up!! and using the magnet too of course. I'll be home the next 2 days as well so will continue to have plenty of time to work on it. I've been emptying my sponge and skimmer every couple of hours. I can tell now my sponge wasn't ever working before. The water is so brown when I rinse it out, it used to be clear. Glad to know I'm actually using it right now.

Sounds like things are getting back to normal and the sponge is doing its job. If you can, I would look into getting a replacement sponge. That one felt like it was degrading and all the squeezing while you rinse it is probably just degrading it more. What does the water look like now? Getting clear?

Yeah I agree the sponge has seen its better days.... I'll plan on getting another one. The water actually looks clear right now which is amazing when I think back to what it looked like when you saw it!! After I stir it up with the powerhead it of course gets all that stuff suspended and doesn't look so good for awhile but within minutes it's all sucked up and away and water looks clear again. The glass hardly has any film on it at all.

Sounds great! Keep it up! Have you checked your water params to see what's going on with them?

my salinity is 1.022 (right on), my temp is 81.8 and my phosphates are reading zero for the first time in months. There is hardly any detritus left in the tank! It looks really clear and when I use the powerhead to stir things up not much is there to get kicked up anymore. Sand and glass are lookin good too. It really does look the best it ever has at the moment(well except for the corals:-(. Now I just need to keep it this way a few more weeks or so then slowly start adding some coral again.

I only tested the salinity and phosphates because those were my issues before.

    thanks!

I would bump the salinity up slowly to 1.025-026

sure. thanks rc:) I probably won't do another water change for a week (or 2 depends on how things are looking) is it ok to wait until then or should I mix up some saltwater for my next couple of top off waters??? That way it would be more gradual right???

When I need to adjust my salinity on my nano, I just get a large plastic cup filled 1/2 way with tank water. Then I add a few tablespoons of salt, mix it up and pour it in. Wait a few minutes to make sure that it combined well with the other water and test again. If you over-compensate, you can take out a cup or two of tank water and replace it with RO/DI water. Wait a few minutes and test again.

If you like math, you can keep track of how much two tablespoons changed your salinity, then calculate how much more you'll need. Me, I just keep testing. :)
