As the title says I'm in need of enough reverse osmosis (or saltwater) to fill my 120g for a leak test by tomorrow.

Wal-Mart would be better than tap water. Called Pet's Playhouse and they're a little steep in price.

    Anyone have other ideas?

    Thanks!

I'd use tap for a leak test. If ok, drain and then fill with ro.

Yeah, definitely just use Tap if you're only leak testing. I just filled up my used 120g RR w/ RO/DI and wish I had used tap to begin with. Even though it looked like I had the tank cleaned spotless, there was a bunch of crud/sand still in between the narrow overflow walls that I hadn't realized. I contemplated dumping it all out again and starting over.

Do you already have an RO/DI and just don't have enough made up yet? With that size of tank, you are going to need your own RO/DI filter rather than having to lug water jugs around every other week.

If you really think you need it, I could start making some to have ready for tomorrow, but not sure how you would transport that much water though?

I have 30 gallons made up right now. How do you plan on transporting?

    Thanks for the replies!

    I should clarify:

I would like to move my 72g to my 120g tomorrow after the leak test and the tanks are currently sitting next to each other.

I do have a 5 stage RO/DI that only produces a gallon or so/hour so it would take several days to fill it. In theory I'll only need +/- 50 gallons if I transfer my all of the water from my 72g but was entertaining a 100% water change if I could fill the 120 with RO/DI or mixed saltwater.

My wife is suggesting I use tap to fill it initially - Cedar Rapids has been voted the "best tasting" water in Iowa but I'm reluctant to use tap with a reef tank.

Wal-Mart sells Culligan water that has to be better than tap - I can only move 30 gallons at a time so it would require several trips and I was trying to see if there was a company in Cedar Rapids that would have RO or purified water for sale. Pet's Playhouse was $0.49/gallon RO and $1.29/gallon salt with no price break on 100 gallons (didn't talk to Nick - wasn't in until Monday).

I have about 250 gallons of IO mix to use for the initial fill.

I agree with tap water for test. Jus throw a hose in it and fill it up for test. If its all good drain it and use towels or shopvac to drain it all out. Wait til tomorrow when its bone dry and move everything over with your existing water. Doing 100% wchange your gonna have a algae outbreak and possibly deadloss i would think. Id use as much old water as possible and fill the rest with fresh.

If you need RO/DI I can have some available to you for tomorrow. I've got a 35 gallon storage tank, and if needed a 55 gallon drum that I could probably have pretty full by tomorrow afternoon.

when i did an initial fill on my 120 gallon tank i went to culligan and purchased a type of water from them that was more stripped and even better then ro/di water. i remember it having a red cap on the five gallon bottles. i had approximately 80 gallons of ro/di made at my house but needed extra to get up to the full tank/sump volume. i rememebr it being roughly between $7-9 per five gallons plus bottle deposit but you get the deposit back upon return of the bottles...for me that wasnt a bad price...not sure what price range youre wanting. i also didnt need all 120 gallons either. also it probably wont be much help to you as you want to do this on a sunday and culligan wont be open until Monday. not even sure if there is a culligan near or in cedar rapids but thats what worked for me when i was in a bind.

    Wow!

I want to thank blackx-runner, bobsfish, Roman and Lee for your generous offers to supply water - I wasn't asking to find some from the club and this illustrates the generosity of GIRS!

I did locate some RO/DI that I'll use after a leak test with tap water and am now planning on using the 50 - 60 gallons of existing water in my 72g.

    Thanks again!

    -Eric
