You are definitely on the right track with the style of overflow. Slim interior box plumbed through to an exterior box. Plumb it up using a bean animal style setup. That will give you fail safe drains, high flow, and silence. Can't be beat IMO.

How are you planning on running your return plumbing? If you utilize the full 24" side for the overflow you'll have to go over the top, or find somewhere else to run the returns through than the end. Problem is the shorter you go with the overflow box, the less flow you'll get. I don't see it as a big deal since I don't run much flow through the sump, but some do.

I think one issue with long peninsula style tanks is always flow to the far side. If you don't want cords and powerheads on any of the open sides of the tank then you're forced to push water the entire length for flow.

I had a 4 ft 120 Bullnose acrylic tank that had a canopy. What I did for flow is for the return i attached a pvc pipe and ran it above the water line to the other side of the tank then used lockline and had them go in the farside of the tank. You couldn't see the pvc because of the canopy nor was it in the way because I ran it up the middle. Just an idea hope I explained it well enough lol
