More sketches, what do you guys think of the overall design so far? I am not sure how I am going to do the return yet.
I want to go with submersed Eheim return pumps, 2 or 3 of them. Should they be plumed back into the "sump" or directly into the DT? (pros/cons?)
I hope that the images help explain the design well enough. Basically, in Bean-Animal fashion, the water from the DT drops 1" and into the "sump". Then one more inch into the central cistern (3 created by glass dividers going the entire height of the tank).
The theory behind this tank is that the lack of excess pluming will reduce the amount of upkeep required, thus making the tank more feasible in the long run.
Also, I wanted to do a rimless design for the edges of the DT. Anything towards the back of the tank can have any type of bracing. Can I do a hybrid half rimless half braced design?

I have a lot of time to plan things so if you have any input let me know.

PJ, i love the idea of this setup. kinda like a super beefed up biocube. could look pretty sweet!
    couple questions:
-what will you be using for mechanical filtration?
-how big will each back compartment be?
-is there going to be a canopy type deal over the back portion of the tank?

    couple thoughts:
-if you run a strip of glass on top of the first divider wall you'll essentially be adding a "brace" to the tank. i don't think you'll have any problem as long as the tank isn't to huge (500gal.) it would help a bit to move the divider wall a bit forward. this may allow you to do a cryptic zone filtration setup in the "sump" portion of the design.
-you main run into stagnant areas in the "sump" portion do to the water entrance and exit being to close to each other.
-if the back of the tank is not going to be easily accessed then you may run into problems with monthly/bi-weekly maintenance.( i.e. cleaning skimmer, changing carbon/phosban)

    hope this helps
    thanks joe

Do you have any links to tanks using the cryptic zone filtration?
