I'd like to make a change with my circulation pumps on my 75g tank and I'd like some recommendations - as well as 'thoughts' on why you make a particular recommendation.

Currently, I'm running 2 Jaebo WP25's. They have been running since Dec 2013 w/o any problem. They are not connected via 1 single controller - so although they have variable speeds and somewhat random flow - they aren't necessarily in sync with each other.

I think they give me a fair amt of flow, but I think the flow is fairly concentrated and I would like to try something with a wider flow. Also, although I have great growth and coloration on my corals - I really don't have alot of polyp extension, except on my millis.

The 2 main alternatives I'm thinking about are: Vortech and the newer RW series on the Jaebo. But, I'm open to other ideas.

As for the Vortech, I think that the MP40's have too big of a footprint and overall power for my 75 gal tank. I was wondering how 3 MP10's would work????? Or I was wondering about a couple RW-8's by Jaebo?????

What are your recommendations?? Other 75gal SPS dominated tanks - what are you using????

I run 2 MP40QDs on my 110 Mixed and I run them at 50-60%. The placement I have the corals are happy. Ive been really happy with the Vortechs. I know some people will do 3 MP10s, one on both sides of the tank and one on the back wall to try and eliminate dead spots(I think @jeremy@jeremy did this for his SPS tank). Im working on setting up a 90 cube and I'm going to try one Gyre 150. Hoping that will be enough for the whole tank if not I'll put another Gyre or a MP10 on the other side.

Love my gyre. The 150 rocks my 250 at half speed, so you can get by with the smaller model easy.

I run 4 mp40 on my 120. 2 on each side of a 75 would be perfect. And when your tank fills in. Take a wp25, put on back wall point straight down behind rocks to blow detritus out.
I haven't tried the gyre yet but I have seen a few. Looks like they move a lot of water but I am looking for a lot of water movement along with the control to randomize flow.
I control mine with apex. It runs through the different modes through the day. And power percentage goes up through the day then slows to a calmer flow at night.
And my LFS is a very large seller of ecotech products and can fix right at the store if needed and carry spare parts also.
I have had these pumps for almost 4 years and haven't had to do anything but soak in vinegar every once in a while to clean. Good pumps.

I was looking into a couple MP10s for my 90 but noticed they are rated for 3/8 inch tank thickness max. The 90 is 1/2 inch which is probably the case with a 75 also.

I have 3 mp10 on a 120 LPS dominant tank. No problem. I secured the cords on trim of tank.

I have 2 mp40qd's on my 135 corner and love them. I have a tunze 6055 pointed to the very back corner of the tank since it's an odd shape and I get a dead spot back there. But other than that the qd's do a great job...never have them over 70%, and they are QUIET unlike my old ES's!! I also have them hooked up to my apex via wxm and I would highly recommend that!!

If you have an apex their wav pumps are super nice and very quiet. They move tons of water and easy to program through fusion. I think the price of 499 for two pumps and the module isn't too bad considering the price of two similarly compared pumps. I have had and still do have mp10's and mp40's tunze 6055 and the maxpect gyres . I am currently running the maxpect gyre in one of my 93 cubes and a pair of wav' s in my other cube. Currently I am sold on the gyres and the wav pumps and intend on using them for my 220 build. My biggest gripe on any of my pumps is on the mp's and the motor on the side of the glass. All of the other pumps I have you can actually move them by their magnets to clean the glass underneath them with out raising havoc on the operation of the pump. I like the gyre for the water movement and it's ability to be placed vertically or horizontally depending on what your trying to accomplish and I also read that some people have placed the magnet mount of the wav in their overflow which I haven't tried yet but believe that would be a nice option. The wav pump and the tunzes are by far the quietest of them all.

I use one MP40 on my 75 SPS tank. It's on the side of my tank opposite the overflow and I have it set to about 80%. I would set it higher but I have concerns that it will blast the coral that are directly in front of it. Because the 75's are long, a gyre could work nicely as you would only need one, and it will move a lot of water. You could then use one of your WP25s in the back of the tank.

I think you'll want the extra power head with the gyre. My gyre 150 is strong but it doesn't hit the far right side of my tank as much and there are some dead spots. I'm actually going to remove my gyre and try two different powerheads to see if that will work better for the rock work.

Ooooh. Thanks for all the responses. I'm thinking about everyone's comments and will post a response with questions/thoughts tomorrow.

@jeremy@jeremy - not sure on your comment. You run 4 mp40s on your 120. Then you say '2 on each side of a 75 would be perfect'. Am I correct in interpreting that you are suggesting also using 4 MP40s on my 75 gal tank.

Also - LOL - your comment about adding a WP25 when the tank fills out...........

@Fence13@Fence13 - Did I read this correctly that you have a Gyre 150 - but it doesn't hit the far right side your tank? I don't remember how many tanks you have. How big is the tank? @xroads@xroads said that a Gyre 150 at 50% was more than enough for his 250 gallon tank. Also Chris - in your 1st comment you say that gyre would work nice - which one are you referring to?

So the recommendations are (not in any particular order):

    1) 1 or 2 MP40QD's
    2) Gyre - 130? or 150?
    3) 3 MP10's - but that may not be sufficient for a 48" long tank

Also - I do not have an APEX controller. I have a reefkeeper elite.

No one really promoted tunze ????

I've got 2 mp40qd on my 75 gal running at 50% on the reef crest mode. And my corals are loving it! Don't get the gyre 130. Get the 150 if you decide to go that route.

2 mp40s would work just fine on your 75 gallon tank.
I run 4 on my 120. I have 2 set high to push over top of my rocks and 2 set lower on sides to push water across the front of my rock.

The wp25 would work if you have detritus or dead spot behind rocks. When colonies get big it's hard to get flow every where. Which your tank already is filled out so..... if there's a dead spot put it there lol.

I have the 150 Gyre on the end of the 250 on wave mode. It is moving the whole tank with a 1 inch wave. I do also have one the other end but it is vertical.

The tank I have the gyre on is a cube that's 30"wide. I want a pump on the other side so the flows are perpendicular to each other. I say this because there isn't a lot of flow to the right of the gyre.

I feel a gyre would work best in long tanks, like the 75, that wouldn't have the above issue.

Thkd. Did you use vortex pumps before the gyre? if do, how would you compare them?
