Awesome. I will definitely keep posting things here about how the tanks are doing and what the kids are learning. I'm excited! I need to really get my ducks in a row so I can figure out what to start getting from where as far as the other supplies I need. I also need definite commitments from people about what they are donating.

I'll tell you the truth, Folks. I get really excited when my phone dings and it's a new post from this site. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I need to ask a favor. If you have offered to help or have something you would like to donate, could you post it here or send me a PM? I have a deadline coming up that I need to meet for purchasing some things. The items you are donating or the cash being donated will determine how I spend my budget. I will try to post a list tonight of exactly what I have and exactly what I want or need. The more I hear from you all, the quicker I can get that list put together. I am so appreciative of the willingness to help that everyone has shown. You all are a phenomenal group of people!

Are you planning to have a quarantine tank? I'm sure down the road a lot of reefers will dontate frags to you so it would be wise to have one along with some coral dip.

I have any of the following I would donate if I knew it would actually be used as part of your setup and not something sitting in a corner/box:

48" VHO retro kit. 2 - 110w bulbs. Pretty sure I have brand new URI actinic bulbs for it.

3 - single 175w metal halide (SE) pendants. I just purchased new 20k XM bulbs for these but decided not to use them.

20g tall aquarium (drilled towards the top on both the back and side panel so it could be plumbed inline as a frag tank or refugium.

If you don't need any of these I would probably pitch-in $20.

Thanks, Lee! I do have a 30 gallon that I intend to set up as a quarantine tank. I have a set of LED lights for it. The two large tanks I have coming have 6' x 2' dimensions. I'm not sure how that will work with the lighting you've offered. I'd be thrilled to take it off your hands as long as it will work for the tanks. I'm like you, I do NOT want to take things if they are just going to be set aside. I only want to take what I'll use and use well. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Within the next week, I'm going to have to get things rounded up or ordered as much as possible. I will be picking up the aquariums on Wednesday and taking them to my classroom. After that, it will be a slow process of setting up.

Ok. I think I have my head on straight enough to put down a list of things I need. If you could, please respond to this or PM me and let me know how you can help and I can keep a running list of what I have and what I still need. Please keep in mind, I'm NOT asking for people to give me everything I need. I do have a budget, limited, but, it's there and I need to spend what I do have by next week. If you want to sell me something (preferably cheaply /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Are you tying the systems together? Making them independent? If you have a big enough sump you can partition off a section as a fuge. If you want to do an entire tank as a fuge how much room do you have? Should be able to get all kinds of macroalgaes from members. Throw some mangroves in there as well. Then plumb it into the system.

I'm honestly not sure. Space is an issue. I may have to do them together by corners in an "L" shape in order to make use of the room I have. If they can be tied together that way, that's what I'd like to do. LOL I used to be such an expert at this and things have really changed in 15 years. Never used mangroves, before. Might need some pointers. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

If space is a concern i would just partition the sump to have a fuge. Someone else should be able to advise you on good filtration options. I don't run a fuge on my tank. Just a skimmer and algae scrubber

It would be my recommendation to research all of the different types of filtration that are out there today and make your decision based upon what your plans are to do with the tank. such as bio pellets are great for ultralow nutrient systems and will allow you should have a large bio load and are easy to maintain

Thanks Marcus, and Runner. I'm still trying to figure out which would be best, but, I need to do it by the end of the week! ACK!

For strictly scientific purposes, I would so 2 seperate isolated systems. When doing experiments, need a control...
My $0.02, 2 isolated systems, 1 with a standard setup, skimmer, fuge in sump, ect, the other one try algae scrubber, ect. Also a good way to demonstrate dosing, you can compare the effects, extra.

Thanks, Railcar! I was able to make some purchases, today. In addition to the three tanks, stands, one hood and one light set, I was able to find a few more things. I worked a deal with a local pet shop. He gave me several things at wholesale and a few at a small profit for him. Here is what I now have:

    Marine Complete Test Kits

    Coral Dip

    Coral Propagation Kits

    2 Refugia

6 bags of sand (NOT LIVE)

    2 Circulating Pumps

    2 Submersible Pumps

    5 lb bucket of Bioballs

I also have an RO/DI system headed my way that has been donated. AND, I have a box of corals coming from another company when we are up and running.

I have decided to set the tanks up completely apart from each other. They will be set up identically as much as I can. We will have one with actinic bulbs and one with LED to see which promotes the best growth, health, etc.

I still need protein skimmers (thoughts?), animals, live sand, live rock, shrimp, etc. We could also use the cash donations some have offered. Please let me know exactly what you intend to donate. I am quickly spending my budget and need to finalize things as soon as I can. I really appreciate everyone's input, advice, offers, and donations. You guys are AMAZING!
