Today I upgraded my sponsorship to a Vendor account.  I am currently in the process of setting up a custom acrylics fabrication shop out of my garage.
I will be starting out building enclosures for Algae Scrubbers, and will very shortly progress into building sumps, small tanks, frag tanks, etc.  I plan to eventually progress into building full custom aquariums, but that is likely a ways off.
If you have a project that you've been thinking about and you want it done right, but you don't have all the equipment or knowledge, then give me a shout.  I've spent quite a bit of time reading up on materials and processes that the professional tank builders use (like James Steele of Envision Acrylics - "Acrylics" on RC) and even talking to a few of them.  I have a pretty good arsenal of tools and materials at my disposal.
I've already got a list of projects, and it will be a couple weeks before I am up and running to the point where I can start even considering more projects.  I work full time and have 4 kids and 2 dogs, so unfortunately, I have to squeeze pretty hard to find time.
For simple projects, like a nice looking frag rack, a drop-in sump divider or stand, or a hang-on-tank acclimation or QT container, etc, those are things that I could turn around pretty quick.
I also want to build up a portfolio of products and customers, so my prices initially will be pretty low, because quite honestly I don't have a full gauge on the labor times, but that will only last until I wise up.
Make no mistake though, everything that I make will be high quality.  I personally do not believe in making things cheap, especially when it's not for my personal use.  You will be satisfied.
That's it for now, feel free to PM me if you have something in mind.

    Hey Bud

Sounds like you've got one heck of a business idea. I am not sure of anyone else in the Iowa area working with acrylic but then again I am a newbie still. I followed along with you on RC for a long time on the topic of algae scrubbers so your name is familiar to me. Once I get my 125 gallon in the house I may bug you for some corner over flows, but then again I may need to have my tank drilled before they'd do me any good. Still toying with the idea.

If only you were closer I'd love to lend a hand and learn the trade.

O and please post pics of whatever you have done or heck post them as you're building if you can or even better maybe a few videos but then again those may unlock secrets to your success and we don't want that.

It's all out there - 8 year old RC thread, 5000+ posts and red eyes!! My Dad has been building things for years so I learned from him too, but just display cases, etc. Nothing that needed to hold (much) water, so now I'm actually teaching him stuff!

That is funny. At first that does not look like a nano. Then you see it up on the wall and yep, that's a nano for sure!!!

But yes, I would very much like to build a tank like that. Looks like a cool project.

yeah i have always loved that tank i think i would be cool to have a tank like that to hang above another tank or have it built into a stand with another tank!

Hey Bud, we're doing an acrylic demo in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area on June 18th if you want to come show off some of your work! It would be a great way to get word out about your new business!

Bring the family! The store's huge and they'll have plenty to look at while you're there.
