I have a 29g Biocube HQI and recently my light has been giving me problems. I got some replacement parts and tried to fix the light but the more I took it apart the more problems I found. So I decided to change out the light for a new light.

After much thought I've gone with the Kessil A150W Ocean Blue light. So far so good. I like the color better that the metal halide but only time will tell if it does a better job.

So far a big plus is the color and lack of excess heat the the light puts off.

Does anyone else have this light and what do you think of it?

The kessil is a great light - lots of people use them. AI, Kessil, Maxspect, Ecotech, Reef Breeders all make great lights. There is always the DIY LED option, too.

A buddy of mine is an LED psycho. He's always reading up on them, looking at all kinds of numbers, etc. His favorite is the maxspect razor (R420R). I think it has to do with the look of the light, rather than the growing potential for corals, but that's the one he always says people should get. To be honest, though, with any of the major LEDs I don't think you can go wrong.

I have the ai nano and it is a great light that's dimmable, ramp up and down and you can set your color preference. When I get my ai Vegas they can be joined to work together .

Thanks for the input. I looked at those lights as well but liked the way this light worked with my set up. I'm not the greatest at the DIY stuff. Usually ends up being more trouble and expensive than just buying what I want.

So far so good. Corals seem to be responding well to the new light and I like the color and the fact it gives off little or no head compared to my HQI light.

    Again only time will tell.

Ok, update on my light. I ended up moving my cube to a different part of the room and really didn't get to see everything full extended until tonight. I have to say I love the look of the new light.

The only thing I was worried about was my Maxima Clam since they are light hogs but it seems to be as open as it ever was under the halide. also noticed the colors are very cool under this light. Both on the corals and fish.

Might be too early to determine if this is due to the light but my pistol shrimp and watchman goby are coming out more and don't seem to be as scared of me. They are newer to the tank so it might just be them getting use to me vs different lighting.

1 Week in and the new light is working out well. I really like the color of my corals and fish under this new light. Clam is doing well under the light and my Goby and Pistol Shrimp are coming out and are not scared of me anymore.

The biggest plus so far is the lack of heat the light produces. With the HQI light it made the tank boarder line to being too hot during the summer (even in the basement). So far so good.
