So I had to get a new impeller for my skimmer pump (a sicce psk 1000) a couple months ago. Now the pump isn't working again.
I'm using an eshopps s200 ain't.it's actually a pretty nice skimmer. Inspired by the Octopus cone skimmers. The sicce pump is will liked to, but I'm wondering if it makes sense to replace the pump or go in a different direction.
    New pump: $120
    New skimmer: $250? Octopus nw-150?
My tanks a 125 now and not the 180 I bought the eshopps for.
    Thoughts?

The impeller doesn't want to turn. I took it apart. not dirty. It'll turn but when I put the pump back together and in the tank, no turn.

From the sounds of it the skimmer is pretty good as is. I don't know that spending all the extra money for a completely different skimmer would be of any benefit vs. spending $100 for a new pump.
Hell you may be even able to retrofit a better, more efficient pump on the skimmer body you already have.

There are certain things about the skimmer I don't like. The collection cup is hard to get on and off. It's hard to adjust.I just wonder if id be investing more in a skimmer I don't love when I could go for a reef octopus for a few bills more.

Sounds like you are not happy with your skimmer so I would invest in a new one. Being easy to clean and adjust is worth it!
