i got my new tank up and running, I had a friend do the plumbing work for me and he did a lovely job, however, it is sooooo loud that i cannot sleep. The tank is beside my bedroom and theres a rough sorts of gurgle sound almost. Not a gulp gulp sound, but like scratching nails into wood. It's obnoxious and I dont know how to make it stop. I turned the flow rate down a bit on the return pump, but that changed nothing. Please tell me there is a fix to this! I will go bananas if i cant!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/w00t.gif

Yup, sounds like you need standpipes, or the ones you have aren't working properly.

Ok, so now i know where the sound is coming from. for some reason the right overflow, (the drain line side) has water rising above the durso anti siphon thing and its making noise as the water finds its way inside the hole.... for some reason, the water level inside the overflow on the right side is higher than the water level in the left overflow... so the noise is only coming from the right side....

both the left and the right overflow have a durso pipe and a straight pipe going up higher...

ok, so i sorta turned down the drain rate while leaving the pump rate fully open, and it seems to have equalized the water level, was that a proper fix?

but the skinny stand pipe isnt making the noise, the chubby durso pipe's anti siphon is making the noise

/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/dursos2.gifim guessing yours looks like the first 1 with out the air valve?  if you have air tubing put that in the holes 3-4 in length you can add a air valve if needed to control airflow into the pipe.  also are your drains plumbed together and below or above the water?  and i wouldnt restrict your drains.  the return line is just that a return line not a standpipe

first photo is correct.... the 3 inch air line fixes the problem and so does the adjustment to the right side drain valve.. so i assume the airline tubing is considered the better fix?
