Hey all, I have a new 180 coming from Miracles. Actually got it for free (long story). It arrives this weekend in Ankeny to be picked up sometime next week. I have a friend with a truck, but I don't know enough people that are free or strong to move it! It's 1/2" glass and I think probably 500-600lb ish so will need some strong folk. I can back up near the door, so no stairs and it's only about 30ft, also got 4 125lb suction cups.

Anyone ever hire a moving company or something like that for muscle?

I have never hired anyone to move a tank, but I live in Ankeny and could probably help if you get enough others.

I can most likely help just need at least 1 hour notice that's about how long it will take to get there

I moved a 240 gallon to my basement. it sucked but can be done. I am willing to help aswell. Be sure you have industrial grade suction cups or there will be no way we move it. LOL

The cups are pretty nice, you pump them for the suction and they have indicators if the suction drops. Each has individual cases.

My friend and I can pick the tank up Monday if anyone can help in the evening? 6?

Of course that is IF the shipping company is telling the truth and it really comes this weekend!

If you go moving company route we just used A1 movers to get our 300DD from seascapes to our garage and they are coming back when ready to move inside. Would definitely recommend them and were pretty reasonable too.

I also live in Ankeny and would be willing to help along with @MillerTime@MillerTime . I personally think we should be able to get a 180 with minor to no issues. I did my 200dd that was 1/2" glass with 4 people. That was by far more awkward just due to not having any length and the weight was not spread out at all.

That is really great. Thank you! As some know I tore down the reef because I got sick and went FW because of time and energy. I'm ok now but lost 80lb and am so much weaker moving a nice tank has been freaking me out.

I have 2 other people plus me, so with the generous offers on this thread I think it shouldn't be too bad! I will call the depot Monday to make sure it came in and then update. Thanks again everyone!!!!

The tank did come in! I was thinking we could move it at 6pm if that works for people.

The tank is about 340lbs. Me and my buddy moved a 220 just the 2 of us.

I hope it is that light. The 120 rimless I have from them was 575lb in the crate weighed by the shipping company. The crate really wasn't all that heavy either, I think standard pallet weight is 30lb plus a couple 2x4 and plywood - so the 120 was in the 500lb range give or take. I didn't get a notice this time, so I don't know how heavy the 180 is. Just want to be over prepped rather than under.
