Hi im pretty new to the fourm and new to reef tanks. I was always looking at getting a reef tank when i saw a 14g biocube for sale for only 140 so i had to get ontop of it. My ? is this is all i need to set up a reef tank right? Yesterday i added sand and salt water to the tank. When should i start adding rocks?

IMO you should be good to start working with rock. Now are we talking live rock or base rock? If you get some live rock it will help turn the tank faster so you can start adding fish and coral. When I started my 55 gallon, which is now a 135 gallon, I got 30 pounds of live rock and then 20 pounds of base. The live rock seeded the tank and started the curing / turning process.

I bet someone on the forum has some rock they'd part with. Just keep your eye out and welcome to the club! Don't miss Spring Fest!

I can't be too much help here but I just wanted to say Welcome to the fold. This has been a great resource for me, I only wish I would have joined years ago.

My opinion get base and a piece of live rock with coralline on it and scrape the coralline off the rock into the tank. Unless you are 100% sure that piece of rock or any live rock you are putting in is pest free don't do it. I started with base and scraped off the coralline into my tank and with patience and time it will cover your rock. Otherwise you may be like many and have pests come in on your rock or like me constantly fighting apistasia. Because I put in one small piece i thought was clean and it was not. I have a 7.5 gallon nano believe me you notice those little buggers and they multiply very fast. Monitor your temp on those tanks they get hot and get some kind of ATO (auto top off) for your water. Always replace evaporation with fresh water preferably ro/di. The more stable the water parameters the more luck you will have with your tank. Any questions or concerns post on the board we will help. Welcome to your new addiction .LOL
