I am new to the site and new to salt water. I purchased a 55 gallon tank all set up with water and everything. It has been set up for a little over a month and everything looked great. It came with a Lion and a triger fish. I located a xtra large maroon clown that I wanted to add to the tank but waited until the 1st month was up to make sure everthing was good. I went to purchase it the other day. It was around an hr away so I made a day out of it. When i made it back in the evening I came home to a Horor. I notice all 5 of the turbo snails 2 urchins a couple of hermit crabs, My frog spawn and a few other frags I had were all dead or close to it. I couldnt figure it out at first. I noticed right away that my circulation pump was not working and thought it was maybe not enough water movement and O2 in the tank. I took out the broken pump and put another in right away and did a water change. The fish all look fine. I started to check over the broken pump to see what the deal was. I put it in a bucket of water and plugged it in. Bad idea. I felt a major shock that tripped the breaker in the kitchen plug. The cord had chew marks and bare wires which electicuted my tank. I am devistated! One of my urchins have been hanging out on the pump for the last few days. He must have finaly chewed through it. I didnt know they could do that. Has any one else had this happen?
So now i am looking for any cheap frags around to restock my tank. Also, Where would be a good spot to get a new partial clean up crew for the tank? Do you think the live rock is ok or did it kill everything? The fish are fine and a few hermit crabs seem ok. I had some mushroms that shrunk up a lot but still seem alive. Any help would be great. I live in northeast Iowa but could drive for the right price on things.
    Thanks for any help.

    Agreed

Live rock is full of bacteria, very hard to kill, but very necesary & usefull.

i would run some carbon just in case it leaked anything else into the water

    Welcome!

Might have been your trigger chewing on the cord.

bummer...never heard of anything chewing on an electrical cord...except maybe rodents...but, you don't find too many rats in saltwater.

I had an urchin chew through a koralia 4 cord. But it just popped the GFCI outlet and nothing was hurt.

Try fishack in Manchester if that is close to you.
