New to GIRS

    Hi, we're new to GIRS... CJ is my 9 year old future aquarist and I'm mom, Jaime. We actually registered a little while ago, but haven't gotten on the discussions yet... With the help of Andrew at AC&C, we set up a 20 gallon saltwater tank this summer (to be sure we wanted to stick with this). We're loving the saltwater, have had freshwater for years... but with that small a tank, it's tough to keep the water going right and we're looking to upgrade now for Christmas. Any help or ideas are appreciated-- and since we're looking to buy the whole shabang here soon-- if anyone has equipment or supplies to get rid of, let me know!

    Welcome to GIRS and to saltwater. You'll get plenty of great ideas and help on the forum. I would strongly suggest that you plug into a regional group...you'll get to know people better and get more hands-on help. There are always plenty of equipment and livestock for sale or trade - just keep looking on the site.

    Id say look for at least a 75 gallon even a 50 gallon has a lot of up and down water balance

    I went from 29 to a 75 and now gathering up stuff for my 220RR.

    Welcome to saltwater. A 75g is a good starting point and you can usually find someone on the forum or craigslist selling a set up reasonably. Enjoy.

    Great to see a family interested in salt water. Sounds like you're off to a good track with joining GIRS and doing some research.
    The biggest question about getting a bigger tank is how big do you think you want to go. If it something you really want to continue with IMO get the largest tank you can justify. Look at the space the tank is going in to make sure it can fit with all necessary equipment. There are always people selling off old equipment on the forums. Watch the listings for a complete setup.

    Thanks for the ideas! We're in Cedar Falls and looking for a 75 or larger. And I emailed the user with the bow front for sale!

    A 75 gallon set up just was posted this afternoon for $675 in Mt. Vernon, near CR. Might want to check that out. He is selling everything live stock and equipment.
