New to Saltwater and GIRS

Hello All,


My name is Pete H. I am a 4th year graduate student working for my Ph.D. My wife and I have recently decided to jump into the saltwater aquarium endeavor. We have had freshwater tanks and thought it would be fun to take the plunge into saltwater. We started up the tank about 3 months ago. I heard about GIRS while scouring the Internet for information on saltwater aquariums. And was convinced to register when GIRS was recommended highly by several people. I look forward to learning much more from everyone's experience.


So, about my tank. I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank. Currently stocked with ~90lbs of live rock, 4-5 in crushed coral base bed, a few corals (waving hand, kenya tree, toadstool leathers, yellow polyps, and some mushrooms), 3 small damsels, 1 large yellow-striped maroon clownfish, and 1 large yellow tang, one large brittle starfish, and several hermits and snails. No fancy setups yet. I run 2 marineland Emperor 280 biowheel filters, a bakpak protein skimmer, generic submersible heater, and a Current Nova Extreme T5HO Fixture.
