Hey everybody, my names Casey. Just got started in the aquarium hobby, and immediately jumped straight to saltwater haha. I have a 75G that I just finally got established. I started it up in January and after about a month the tank went crazy and got from every person I showed pictures to, the worst case of green water they have ever seen. After many, many water changes and adding a good deal of live rock the green water is gone and I finally have clear water again. To start me out I have purchased two blue damsels, a midnight angel, yellow head goby, and a sohal tang. I also have a cleaner crew of peppermint shrimp, snails, and crabs. As far as corals, being that im just getting started and havnt gotten too far into them yet. I have a GSP, Rock anenome, and what I think is yellow polyps? Haha im not sure I just got a chunk of it off of somebody i know. So thats what Ive started myself off with and just wanted to get on here and introduce myself. Appreciate all the help and advice anybody offers me in the future! Thanks!

Well at the Christmas party we had a prizes for members only, and I won a complete fagging set that was probably 70$, some one got a bucket of salt. So I made some money, also some people offer discounts to members on corals, plus the meetings that are held are worth 20$ in knowledge.

Hey welcome to this great hobby.

    Where are you from?

A phosban reactor will greatly help you keep algae in check. There are a ton of different strains that we fight all the time.

$20 gets you discounts & free stuff at club events. Also alot of people give members extra discounts when selling things.

The club uses the money to keep the site going & bring in speakers & put on events.

I live in Cedar Rapids. Well it sounds like Its a pretty good deal becoming a member so I might have to get on that soon! I kinda ran myself broke though this last weekend buying all my fish haha so the membership might have to wait alil bit. And yes, I mean I ran myself broke enough I dont have 20 dollars to spend lol.

That $20 is the best cash you will ever spend. I got *hundreds* of dollars of stuff at the fall fest raffle, and in talking with other members prior to setting up my tank I've shaved over $1000 off of it.

Thats awesome! Yeah ill defenetely join as soon as I can. Quick ? though, I bought a rock aneneme out of impulse over the weekend, before really researching on it. Apparently they like to eat fish, and I was wondering if anybody else had any light to shed on that? Im going to be looking for anenomes here soon cause I defenetly want one, was looking at long tentacle anenome but than someone told me those like to eat fish too. I'd prefer to keep all my fish alive haha!

my understanding is anenomes are pretty difficult to take care of, need near pristine water and very good lighting. do yourself a favor and do a lot of research before you purchase one.

Anemone will eat fish, I know that they sting fish with there tentacles, but most fish become use to it. I have a bubble tip, and my wrasse, and clown swim in it or around it. But, I do feed it silver sides which are like saltwater minnows, and it eats frozen ones. Lighting is the main thing I think for anemones, I got mine after I got my LEDs, but it seems the follow the light if I move the light. The other thing is if they get un happy, or just for kicks they will move and can sting coral.

Definitely start researching things. I always use LiveAquaria, just because they tell you minumium water size, if they are reef safe, and aggressive or not, they do this for fish and other things such as anemones, and other inverts.

Also look into a GFO/Carbon Reactor. My nano water quality, and I have had to clean the glass less with the addition of GFO. For info on that check out Bulkreefsupply.com

LTAs, just like most other host anemones (except carpets) very rarely eat fish, and then usually if the fish is only on its way out and wanders into the nem. I've had an LTA for 3 years with no problems, but your set up is way too young for one, they need a fairly stable, more mature tank.
